Our dept doesn’t have enough seats now so they’re asking for volunteers to have their desk be a Hotelling desk, otherwise everybody’s will become Hotelling seats.
Haha brilliant! Not enough seats. This company is run by id--ts

Better late than never. Sure wish that we could have required this in the COVID era.
There’s no alternative. Todd was kind to us through the pandemic and we had two years remote. But there was slacking. Understandably Robin wants productivity and normalcy. I don’t blame him. if we can only be adults in the office then we need to be in the office.
Our new seating charts make sure people are working and not doing other things behind cubical walls. See someone on their phone when they should be working? Challenge them. Watching movies on a tablet instead of working? Challenge them. It’s very simple.
We can’t. On the Mellon Green Senior Management smokes most all day every day despite clearly labeled no smoking signs. They should simply be displaced.
I hear you. I was of the same mindset when I left. I truly hate people who abuse their power and harm others, and I lost quite a bit of money in stranded transportation benefits, lots of stolen property by facilities, etc. I gave myself a few months to cool off and gradually came to the conclusion that I have been so very lucky to get out of there that fighting for about $2,500 total would be just as toxic as working there. I seldom have the BNYM nightmares that were a fixture of my life for decades and don’t want to risk reopening that door.
I cannot lie- I love it! Enjoy the shared open spaces.
P.S. I am still considering a wide and deep lawsuit in regards to my properties, my loss of parking money, my prescriptions and BNYM’s transportation benefits which were stolen
Managements response to how noisy the floors are?
Noise cancelling headsets!
Brilliant leadership. We must collaborate with people in the office thru the computer with headphones & no desks.
& jeez. How bout fixing the craper stalls so the door latches.
What a dump
I was incapacitated and had personal reasons and plenty of time for monitoring the story and you are dead wrong.
Thank you for confirming what I knew to be true. I just couldn’t believe how the Bank could be so careless with my possessions. It still grates on me.
Talk about going backwards… after 30 years of fighting for ergonomics, often purchasing our own equipment, desks are now fungible? Here’s hoping that you personally never experience a need for accommodations.
Our new slogan
BNYM: Because people aren’t money, we don’t care about them.
You’re just not collaborating hard enough. Have you thought of doing your work in the bathroom? On the floor? The company does not care, we are last gasp pawns for depreciating assets.
@ezd+1mdLBDKA We had contractors who stole medicine and other belongings big time during Covid.
Tractor Boy has his own seat 🚜🚜🚜🚜
@bzd, most of us agree that desks are fungible. That's why I choose the one in my den. Although, the ones in the office seem to be better covid incubators.
@nve, you nailed it! No planning, no strategy are core values for this company (amongst others are no leadership, no accountability)
Can we save some money for the Bank by cancelling our Teams license? It seems odd to license Teams when we’re not leveraging any of the cost savings.
Maybe they will start placing employees on every corner and in every park to get the homeless junkies out of town?
The future…

I don’t care where they want me to work. All of my personal stuff was either lost or stolen by facilities over the COVID era including a few hundred dollars worth of personal tech and ergonomic equipment. I received no compensation. I even lost prescription medicine…. Who the heck steals prescription medicine with an employee name on it?
Now I walk in with only a laptop bag and my wallet. I’m much less efficient but I don’t care. I won’t even bring in so much as a personal pen.
All I can say is WOW! It is really bizarre what's happening at my old job! Hoteling???
It always amazes me that managers who feel that employees work best hoteling in open floor plans demand offices for themselves.
Consider this, though. We ran the data and even BEFORE the pandemic, peak show ups were about 70%, meaning 30% of seats were going unused on a PEAK day, and even more in times of high absence (summers) and Mondays and Fridays.
There is a way to thread this needle where everyone gets a seat, and, the firm can shed unused space and, therefore, save on cost.
It just takes a mindset change that desks are fungible and I don't have exclusive right to a specific desk 24/7/265.....
They have become so batshit crazy after collaboration that we have to sit on each other laps. No planning , no strategy just rush to office because we have to collaborate.
Maybe I’m crazy, but I’d rather do hoteling. I don’t want people knowing where I am all the time. It’s easier to be left alone and blend in. Maybe people will shut up a bit if they’re surrounded by strangers.
Right. The irony of being crammed in to tiny spaces and sharing and touching everybody’s stuff after being told, for the past three years, being around another human was dangerous.
Too much for fostering collaboration.
