Raise

Is it normal to get a pay raise once you hit the anniversary or do we wait till annual review?

Seriously considering to leave as I got hired in July 2022 (during hiring freeze ofc) and was not given a raise this past annual review. For next chance of getting raise, need to wait till March 2024?

Is that normal? What % raise is reasonable as you are still doing some kind of learning since you are just on your first year as entry level software engineer ?

While Dell is not exactly a meritocracy, it likes to think it behaves as one when it comes to ACR time. I've seen mediocre people go years with no raise and top performers getting over 20% bumps + stock. Every manager has his or her or [insert-Dell-DEI-pronoun-here] own method for distributing their budget. Thinking about quitting because you didn't get a raise in < 1yr suggests that one lacks dedication and perseverance and is likely to fall in the 0% bucket next time around.

Raises are annual and pair with EOY review. My first annual raise was 2.99%, the one I received this year was 4% and the highest ever received was 9%.

as a manager, when deciding who will get a raise, if a new employee was hired at a pretty high rate making more than senior people in the same role and they've only been here for 9 months or so, they're not getting a raise.

I wouldn’t be looking for any raises in this environment.

Few people are making it sound like existing employees getting paid less is reasonable factor to not give raise to new folks hired at higher rate.

If you guys have desire to earn more change company go through learning the new project and stuffs and you get same high pay (or comparable amount). So dont use that reasoning and say that others that were there are paid less(or comparatively less).

And existing employees definitely get raise as they upskill and negotiate, those who give that as excuse for low pay are stagnating and just holding the seat as its hard to find something else somewhere out of dell or within dell

Nothing else until March 2024 which would be the next merit cycle

Expect to see between 0% and 3% in March 2024.

You can’t expect a raise while still in training mode. Unless your job is super easy it takes at least a year to get to the level of most of your peers. And I agree with others. You likely came in at a much higher rate than peers who have been at Dell awhile.

so, most new people being hired are making more money than people that have been working for a number of years in the same position. You were hired after the merit raise cycle, probably making good money so you didn't get a raise. Happens all the time.

You were probably hired in making more money than most of your peers (% to market). Makes sense why you didn't get a raise in the past pay planning.

The can do an out of band raise around October, but unless you're performing very well then that's not going to happen and they are probably scrapped now anyway

You’ll have to wait for next year. Or leave.
