Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

A word to the wise/contracting

If you're thinking of getting a contract role here, be aware that it's very possible that you will be hired alongside someone that has no professional/corporate experience at all, or is one of the manager's friends. The unwritten & undisclosed rule is that your professionalism, experience & work ethic is used to bring the other person upto where they need to be to get hired, make the project look good so the other person shines and then you'll be discarded. Managers may even be jealous of your skills, so won't give you a decent "soft" reference as you try to get hired. Seen lots of contractors get blamed, shouted at for things they had nothing to do with. You're basically a target to be used. Seen lots of managers & agencies go full "ego" on contractors-all a power game & nothing to do with work or productivity. Be aware. It's highly political here.

the contractor on my team has been with us since 2014. contractor really wants to become WF FTE...tho we know that will never be offered as WF continues to cut headcount. The contractor complains when not invited to high level calls and asks us to forward the dial in info . seems to have cozied up to our narcissist mgr as stabbed us all in the back when convinced mgr to issue corporate title which is above the 3 of us that have been here for 15+ years that have asked to be "promoted"
long winded post, but contractors may be the safest employed the bank, oops the firm!

Contractors are often excused from all- team meetings and the like. So there’s that.
If your team has a lot of long, pointless meetings it’s no small thing.

Wells uses and abuses the full time employees, too. At least as a contractor you get a front row seat to the madness before deciding if you want to work here full time.

We had a tech contractor (2 yr deal) who was incredible both in skills and personality (not tainted by WF drama). The problem was that WF never setup access to the systems he was contracted to work on and he ended up shifting to a special role (no tech access) that had no value for what we hired him for (but it helped out a partner team greatly).

It created a lot of awkwardness, where he'd need to rely on me and my team for things he should be doing himself and then he worked on something secret (we still haven't figured out the scope of whatever it was he was doing).

This is one time where I wish I was the contractor.

So true. Was yelled at for something that I had actually corrected by some guy that got folded into the team who had a reputation for abusing contractors and was trying to make a good impression with his boss, showing he was "in charge". My manager was sympathetic & knew his reputation but didn't want to reprimand him for fear of political repercussions. I was told "you can go to HR", while at the same time "If you want a job here, don't go to HR."

100%. WF used to be a good place to contract. Not anymore.
