June 15th is the next surplus announcement date per our Leg T/ CWA contract. Do you want to be surplused?

Management layoffs are being announced June 15th with affected work groups being notified a few days prior. I was told by my Director that there will be very few non-management layoffs due to the amount the company would have to pay out in severance packages, any non management reductions will be handled through normal attrition i.e. retirement, people leaving the business for opportunities outside of AT&T, etc. Unfortunately, managers won't be so lucky, and they only receive 6 months severance. The management cuts are going to be wide and deep across the company.

No. but if it happens, I will JOG out of Ohio, and If I don't like the JOG, I'll work on using my severance pay while on ECO.

Yes there is a “grand bargaining” agreement that was signed that secured certain CWA only titles into 2024. It does not cover all titles or IBEW and so you will likely see those being surpluses in 2023.

Is there any validity to this vaccination agreement? I know you said you heard this from you local president, not sure if this can be confirmed by someone else. You never know what to believe since you hear so much misinformation on this website.

Correct me if I am wrong but the company did an agreement with the union when they were trying to get everyone on board with vaccinations, the company promised no layoffs up to the end of 2023!
So yes surplus would be announced in December to take effect 1st quarter 2024!
this is from our local President so there is truth to that!
This is only for craft as far as management they can let them go whenever they want but all of craft be ready for new year!

It doesn't make much sense to say that T will wait until 12/15 to announce a surplus just so they actual off payroll date will be some time in 2024! Headcount reductions will continue throughout the year as management continues to assess the needs and where cuts can actually be made without affecting the overall operations of the given business unit.

All of us Legacy T employees would love to be selected. I'll gladly accept two years wages to leave, as would my co-workers. Talk about money fer nothin'.

June 15th is the surplus date for almost everyone that’s union, not just Legacy T. I doubt anyone really wants to be surplused, because it’s a pretty cruddy thing to go through.

The field won’t see a reduction announced until the 12/15 surplus window, it will allow the actual surplus to happen in 2024.

For the remaining “ole timers”, you will not be allowed to claim 2 year pay because you won’t be “surplused” you will be spun off and wrote off as a loss.

It is funny, indeed, that the company would pay people up to two years wages to leave, however laugh (or cry) all you want but every 3 months the company does it per the Leg T/CWA contract to shed additional workers. Many of us just hope we're next.

Seniority has its perks. Last one in will the 1st one out. Worst case would be for the company to spin or sell off the old Legacy T division.

Since we all know that T is carrying $135B in debt on its books, I think we can safely assume that management will not be giving bargained for personnel eligible for 104 termination pay an offer to leave earlier than planned. I think they'll go after the younger, newer employees with little seniority in order to reduce headcount and save money. I really hope I'm wrong, but this is how I see T operating these days!

@ the judgemental ima Lay dee: your negative assessment is flat out wrong! Firstly, I'm not a mister and 2nd, I'm not dissatisfied with my work. Your interpretation of my post is off-putting with zero merit.

Not me, mister! The world won't survive without my special telephony skills. And I voted for BBB. Once we are rid of all you malcontents, and gas vehicles, only then can we ascend to greatness .

While we don't want to see anyone lose their job who's not ready to quit or retire, many of us are hoping to be declared surplus so we can leave with the generous termination package per our contract, which is up to 2 years pay for those with 31 years seniority. It would be very satisfying to continue getting paid for 104 weeks and then turn on the monthly pension and 401k distributions while getting good benefits that are at least better than nothing. It's time for some of us old farts to retire and enjoy the fruits of our labor. :)
