One Week A Month Leadership - Just Call It In!

Doug Field please listen….One week a month in office and calling in from Cali is not how you build a transformational automotive team in Michigan. We are doomed while the top are still calling in. Way too many LL5+ doing little to nothing while calling it in. Many feel feel lost and most have been working far less because everyone LL5+ calls it in and just doesn’t lead. At the lower levels, work just gets done with minimal low Quality technical review because it is all handled in brief online meetings where everybody has something else to do around the house. Many LL5+ don’t even know the right technical questions to ask so just keep your mouth shut and you will pass your online review. Where have the management role models gone that actually want to work anymore?

If they are getting their work bbn done what does it matter? The boss decides the workload for that position and salary. This guy can get it done with time to spare. Good for him. And good for the boss.

Most bosses want to squeeze out more productivity without paying for it. I say good for this guy.

If there was another coworker making the exact same paycheck, for the exact same workload, but took the full 40 hours to get it done - does that make them the better employee?

@2kir+1mlC0vEe, while you are part of the problem and should be fired, so should your boss. People say employees that work at home aren't productive, like you. This is true, but the problem is their boss is allowing this to go on. If employees aren't pulling their weight, it's mainly their boss's fault.

We should be Thankful for this “work @ home” strategy where the expectations are set so low. Doug Field is getting $1.25+ Million/month to work at home 3 weeks/month in Cali - this is success and well done to him! This style of call-in leadership keeps the pressure off his direct reports, which allow them keep the pressure off their leadership team. EVERYONE is enjoying their breakfast, fixing up their house, biking, and more all while completing their PowerPoint to support the next big call-in meeting. Let Doug Field continue to do his thing from home, so we can all continue to do our own thing from home. The leadership call in meetings are being supported with the PowerPoints, so no problems here!

I don't know what you all are complaining about. Remote work is awesome. I wake up in the morning and turn the computer on and then go back to bed for another hour. Then I wake up and go through emails for about 30 minutes to an hour. Then I take a shower or lake something to eat. Then I work on a PowerPoint for leadership. Then I'm pretty much done for the day. I'll work on things around my house until 5ish and then turn the computer off. It's amazing. Other days I'll do all of the stuff during the first half of the day and then after lunch just take my mountain bike out to the trails. It really is awesome. I encourage you all to work remotely.

WFH showed that we do not need LL5 / LL4. Work is being done at the LL6 / GSR levels. Keep the LL2/LL3 and have the GSR / LL6 direct report to them. Cut out the other layers.

Doug Field is NOT a leader, he has done nothing to move Model E forward. Alan Clarke is doing the heavy lifting but has no support. Most of the experienced engineers have been separated or retired, whats left is an odd mix of former Tesla and new grads unable to deliver. ALL the programs are delayed and cost is a mess.
It's disgraceful and IMO criminal that Mr Field isn't removed.
It's only a matter of time before he is exposed, from the recent drop in Ford's stock, investors are well aware.
BTW, LL5+ were asked to sign an NDA regarding terminations, more layoffs are coming

ROFL @onj we all know the “stellar” leadership is pumping sunshine until they can exit with vested stock options just prior to SHTF. Con artistry is always a short term gig.

I cannot believe what I read here. These attacks on Doug Field (or other members of the Ford executive leadership team) are unjustified and lies.

DF has a critical role in the Ford+ transformation plan by being at the helm of Model e. Our most important branch of the company. Talent to take on that level of responsibility does not grow on trees people, it is hard to come by.

I have been pleased with the positive results thus far and obviously JF and BF have also.

This is the American way. Yeee haww.

You all dream of being wealthy. And if you ever did get a few pennies more than the pittance you earn now, you would expect to be able to do more with your lives too. You would all start working remotely and you know it. That's what keeps serfs motivated - that one day they may be billionaires. If they didn't believe that pipedream, they would vote for the libs who actually try to help the poor. But nope. We convince you that it's not 'patriotic'.

RTO or GET FIRED

He'll keep milking it until he's worn out his welcome. Just like he's done everywhere else he has been. He's a bloodsucker and Bill gave him his exposed neck!

How many LL5+ have TXHOME, ORHOME, CAHOME, WAHOME, FLHOME, etc. in their SuperDuper profile? I appreciate that they are at least honest. Dougie has WHQ as his CDS home base, but does he spend any more time there than wherever it is he resides?

Somehow they can lead entire organizations from their large houses near scenic locations in States far far away, meanwhile, I am told that I need to go to the office to "collaborate" with my local team while we are on meetings with Europe, China, Brazil, Mexico, Canada. That local team also insists on attending these collaboration meetings by WebEx, while we are all sitting in the same building.

I think the story is that all these WFH Managers just don't want to work. They certainly don't have the ability to lead. It is going to become very obvious as we approach some of these major milestones with our next Gen EVs.

@csi To call it bu-t-kissing is way too kind. I was embarrassed and infuriated at the same time. At least we have the admission of a war on talent...

What do you expect from the LL5s when Farley was bu-t kissing Bill in the last TH? There were no questions about how to accomplish the plan, no questions why we are focusing in a Book Repository, in a dilapidated train station, instead of our reducing market share.

We got another brownnosing "excited" for Farley "professional driving" record. Well, I am sure for 20 millions of dollars a year (Farley's salary) we can get the best professional driver ever, that wins all the races. However, it is sad that the only accomplishment of our CEO is racing.

Well, that behavior has been propagated all the way down in the company. Clueless managers, with a court of YES men and brownnosers, disregarding the people that actual do work and know their stuff.
