Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

He doesn’t “want” us to be a bank that returns to 5 days in office

LOL! You are quite literally the one who dictates that. This just foreshadows in six months he’ll be saying “well I didn’t want to have to do this, like I said, but we must.”

@ctjg, tell that to Dermot and Emily. It didn't stop them from taking the expense.

BK doesn’t even offer severance.

Let’s be honest… there was a lot of slacking in that era as well. A few bad apples ruined it for all of us.

Robin IS British and you’re faulting him for looking and speaking British?

@OP

In all fairness to Robin, what else can he do? He’s gotta be aware of the employee resentment and animosity after a relaxing few relaxing no layoff no games years under Todd. Never seen such a wonderful two years ever at any bank or employer so we were very lucky to experience it.

Todd was beloved by all, and deservedly so, but only a known short timer C.E.O. could manage that way. Be thankful for Todd’s wonderful era. We’ll not see 2 years like that ever again.

@1ino

But don’t only politically connected people get to start off exempt and salaried with bonuses in banking. Maybe that’s you?

For the rest of us, isn’t paying dues to get exempt the only way to get a career track with a good salary and bonuses that allow raising a family, etc. it’s slow and steady wins the race.

If you want to work hourly you should go Government, union trades, UPS, Fed Ex etc.

@wuj

Yes, they did, but not severance, SUB. What you miss is that under Todd those displaced were non-performers who ordinarily would be terminated with cause (I.e. no package).

Todd definitely took the high road in the COVID era.

@1qwg, you're so learned. I had no idea what exempt meant. And you're really smart to work more for a little raise. I wish I had your brains.

All of you slackers whining about 35 to 37.5 need to learn what exempt is. It means exempt from receiving overtime. So you get a nice promotion and a small pay raise and your pay actually goes down, because you’re working more hours but you get no overtime.

That is with all banks.

I’m confused. Is 9-5 with an hour lunch considered 35 or 40?

@1txs, you were probably in upstate NY. Or maybe some of the new hires were 37.5 in NYC.
@1toi, that's what was in our offer letter when we were hired and what we accept for that particular salary. Although most of us work far more than 35 hours so mandating 40 hours was actually cutting back for us.

I’m in NY and it was always 37.5. I don’t know anyone that was 35 hours a week here.

PGH WAS 37.5.
NY - 35.

Now every1 is 40, w/o any increase in pay for the extra work/hours

@wuj what the heck department had a 35 hour week?? All the ones I knew of were 37.5 - if you were working 35 I’m glad they figured it out and made you start working the same as the rest of us once it switched to 40. That’s some BS right there working a 35 hour week and being considered full time. What a joke!

There is always at least one of you d-bags in the comments section. Some of you are shills and others are merely just trolls looking to get a rise out of people. My money, which isn't invested with BNYM WM, is that you're just a pathetic troll. What a sad life you must have.

He is so Dramatic . Don't believe me look at his recent video before it is removed. His expressions are so British reciting a school poetry. It looks like he is using a teleprompter during his live speech.

Bank makes record profit when employees are remote.
CEO decided that employee needs to go back to office for visuals.
Profit went to sh-t.
CEO blames employees not collaborating.

Let the fun begin

@dhj, quit lying. BK had severance expense for EVERY quarter that Uncle Todd was CEO. That's PROOF that he laid plenty of people off. He also got rid of our 35 hour work week and closed down the whole East Syracuse office. But at least he had a steady hand when he was stabbing dedicated employees in the back.

Well that was under Todd of course, and Todd spoke honestly and openly and more importantly, he told the same thing to every stakeholder.

All of you who mocked Todd, his no Layoff policy, and his wise and employee friendly leadership are about to get a very rude awakening.

I disagree. I saw a lot of slacking on my team and by teams with which we worked and personally upped my game because I wanted to keep working remotely. I don’t blame Robin at all. A few rotten apples ruined the whole basket.

I’m with Robin on this 100%.

Agree. That was very specific messaging so that they can tell us that it’s our fault and he didn’t want it to happen.

Keep in mind, they kept telling us for how long that, as long as we complied with the two days a week that would be it… They lie

He’s setting you up. He’s saying employees’ behavior will dictate it. But it’s a ‘heads you lose, tails you lose’ situation.

Remember if you will the height of the pandemic. Employee productivity was through the roof with almost everyone working remotely. Yet they were jumpy as a cat in a roomful of rocking chairs to get everyone back in the office ASAP. (Covid spikes kept interfering with their plans.) They both had never seen such a motivated workforce (with people desperate to prove they deserved flexibility after the Charlie years when he told them they weren’t trustworthy) yet didn’t recognize the correlation.

After all the pandemic time talk of “creating the workplace of the future,” they never had a vision, or a will, to change anything. It was empty rhetoric. At no time did the EC actually try to envision long-term changes to how things work.

It’s already been said that we will be 5 days in office either Q4 or early 2024. They are just trying to please the masses for now.

Offices with hoteling won’t be able to accommodate 5 days a week unless they expect people to be sitting in each others’ laps.
