At this point, Intel needs an Elon-style random 50% layoff to have a chance of surviving

Think 50-65K employees might make it remotely competitive.

So, profit maximizing businesses choose cloud vs. on-premise compute because they like to waste money?

They may be missing some big variables. You should start a multi billion dollar company to advise said corporations on how much money they are wasting. I’m sure you and you alone have it all figured out and everybody else in corporate America needs your expertise.

Twitter is a lot better off now that Elon got rid of most of the woke “content moderation” trash, but they still need to generate revenue streams (Elon’s id--t predecessors were more interested in being censors than earning $$$). To turn things around, Intel will need to consider doing both as well.

$9000 server doesn’t include the cost of the staff to maintain, patch, house and power said server.

That’s why CSPs are ki-ling it.
It’s often more economical to pay for the service.

With other technologies coming into the picture like ARM taking significant Market share from x86. Apples new M Series is yet another new example. It seems the battle of complex instruction sets are losing to simple ones.

And no need for random layoffs. There are tons of people at Intel sitting on their a-s collecting with little to no contribution.

Management needs to go top down and review the teams to see what actual value they produce. A good example, it's ridiculous to spend $1,200,000 on yearly cloud service bills for poorly made unused software that could be run with a $9,000 fixed cost server. Lot's of opportunities to save money...

Expecting similar cycle as Q4 and Q1. CPM applications open up 2 Mondays after earnings for any participating units. Those folks will have last day around mid-June. A couple weeks of evaluating how much more reduction is needed, and if any backfill reqs need to open for key positions that were vacated voluntarily. Early in July the non-voluntary CPM begins. Lots of competition on the open reqs. Given today's earnings, Intel needs to cut around 18k to get back to the break even point. Good luck all!

I don't see the math working out for Intel. Intel doesn't have enough demand for products to fill it's fabs, fab costs are exponentially increasing and ramp of any reasonable forecast of IFS is way to slow. Intel would need another $60 Billion in new capital to up with the cash burn rate to give it enough runway to succeed.

Sell $INTC.

Because Intel is pumping all its investment in the manufacturing side and not on the product side. Its going to be rough 2 years.

Its going to suck without meritocracy for 2 years. No raise, no promos, no bonus, no good news, stock going down, continuous layoff threat. Just terrible. All of this could become digestible if they bring back promos.

Revenue per employee metric is falling like a rock @hqr, with revenue now at the levels of more than a decade ago, when costs were about half and headcount two thirds current levels.

Besides that, Intel has not been particularly successful at identifying deadwood in any of the previous ACTs, at least not any more than a random algorithm would.
