Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

We aren’t helpless victims

Take responsibility for your choices. Don’t resent the opportunities or successes of others. Nurture the best in yourself. Fight for your own better future. If you are on this board your relationship with ExxonMobil is probably toxic and you need a reset. At another company. Get your resume together and start applying. Your future awaits.

If the situation is so bad why don’t you leave and go work somewhere else?

ah yes...never blame the "system", never blame toxic culture, just blame your own self...

You must be one of those victim blaming we hear so much on the news.

University hazing causing death? It's that person's own fault drinking that much alcohol. Getting se-----y harrassed at work? Person dressing too imappropriately, overly flirty.

It is impossible to “take responsibility” for anything at ExxonMobil any more because your future relies on the whims of your immediate supervisor. An individual’s performance no longer matters. You can really work hard and have a number of accomplishments, but if your boss feels threatened by you, you are toast. The current assessment system does not allow for subordinates to outperform their bosses like the old system encouraged.
