Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

A lot of people are stuck here

All I know is that under no circumstances would I want to be one of those long-term employees who are stuck here. Why are there so many of them? I guess the reason is that they believed in improvements here.

It's partly because they shovel a lot of work with many different focuses so that you can't concentrate on the newest marketable skill.
Then you are stuck on the tech/language you have to work DI-DO, and time slips past.

Majority of employees still at Cisco either work part time or have second job

Based on my experience, you get trapped on a legacy product and recruiters do not value that experience. It's an issue with working at older technology companies.

The people able to overcome that are charismatic manipulators that can positively spin anything.

After 22 years all the layoffs are over and now that the clean sheet IOU has been started to replace IOS, IOS-XE, IOS-XR and NX-OS everyone will get free doughnuts and soda delivered to their home offices. Compilers will be removed so the few who made sure their code compiled won't make the rest of you feel bad about yourselves. In honor of those laid off no one will get a bonus or raise and Chuck will have a daily one hour meeting where he cries in front of the entire corporation. RTP will not only remain open but it will become the corporate headquarters. After five years everyone gets a million dollars. The Cisco thread on TheLayoff.com will become the happiest place on earth. She'll like it too.

Seriously, you're asking this question in the wrong place.
