"...and have 16 people reporting to a single manager who is located hundreds of miles away. It not efficient or functional."

This has been the case in my group for a decade.

Definitely, poster child for DEI. Stankey wants to model all workgroups/locations after Blue Island!

Is this blue island office you speak of full of diversity hires?

Wireline & Wireless (ACE) Access Construction & Engineering. Due to capital reductions, deferrals, POE reductions, these groups are on the chopping block again. All Management (L1-L4) and Non-Mangement being reviewed. Selections are due 5/8 to HRBP to prepare for 6/22 notification calls

6/16 calls would make more sense, then off the books by 6/30, the end of the quarter

What this really means is fewer opportunities for the lower tiers to advance. Same thing happened with the original 10:1 ratio. All of a sudden career advancement ground to a halt for the L2 and L1’s. This just makes it about 20% harder than current. Well that and I don’t check the DEI boxes, so I guess I’m screwed anyways.

Area Manager reduction underway. Consolidating L2 AM’s to make the 12:1, those that don’t make the cut will be given a Principle title, still doing the work, just not managing the people.

Doesn't really matter how many reports you have. Just pull a Stankey, advise all reports when they can contact you, m-f 8-5, never in evenings, never on weekends. Tell them weekends are family time! That's what he told Warner execs reporting to him.

Pfft... they do this on the regular- maybe every 5 years. It usually ends up with L2 having more people report to them, and maybe a few more report to L3. No changes ever occured beyond that.

This just makes more work for the lower tiers, and doesn't impact the upper. Surprised?

“ Span of Control ratios: Not looking good for Mangement based on these ratios. Looks like L3's will be needing to update their resumes.
L2: 12:1
L3: 10:1
L4: 8:1”

These ratios are unrealistic in many functional groups. Example L2 12:1. Currently there are regions with L2 managing 7-8, their counterpart in another state hundreds of miles away also manages 8, with another manager also hundreds of miles away managing 8. They would need to than remove managers and have 16 people reporting to a single manager who is located hundreds of miles away. It not efficient or functional.

This will be interesting for IT. L3's might have 2-3 L2's but will need to pad counts with normal team members. No way a L3 could have 10 L2 AD's.

Was told by my 3rd level that his technicians are bullet proof in OOR, not have to think of layoffs! I guess a layoff is out of the question for some business units!

Are we to believe a poster who doesn’t even know that the term is “span of control”? Hmmm.

You will believe a lot when you get your 2 weeks notice that rapidly approaching. Hmmm.

Not a lot of AT&T folks needed to manage a supplier/vendor to build the mobility network. OOM submitted per supply chain pricing, OOM approved, network built. Quality is optional since we are looking for a cheap build.

AT&T Construction and Engineering (ACE). If you are reading this, you are about to be laid off. If you are not reading this, you about to be laid off and it will be a surprise.

You don't want the believe it, that's ok. My First line used to have one Central office, now he has 11. Guess how many 2nd lines and 3rd lines we need now. Pro Tip! A whole lot less.

Perhaps provide a bit more detail? Are you talking about fewer managers as in increasing the number of direct reports per manager by eliminating supervisory managers?
