Question about WFH

How many times, working from home, have you actually wished that you were in the office because it might be easier for you to finish a certain task?

It happened to me only once, but I quickly overcame that small problem and the work was done as it would have been if I was in the office.

my management has not heard a peep about the WFH policy. They feel it's all fabricated.

I've been at the company for a few years. I've never underattained on my number and am currently sitting at 90% attainment (for the half) when most of my team is at 20%-40%. If I'm asked to commute again, I'll take my overattainment to a competitior, no questions asked. I have zero loyalty to Dell. My paycheck is a means to an end and I can get it from a company who allows WFH.

Severance is not so bad that someone will give up their job simply because they have been asked to return to the office..... the same office they've commuted to for a long time. Anyone with a foot just inside the door will leave if the option is there to move to another company with a WFH policy. Those are the people Dell needs to retain and not the old timers.

"It will probably move some gruaduates or new hires on instead"

The very people tech companies want to retain.

I know this is hard for you old timers to come to terms with.

"I don't think anyone with any longevity in Dell is going to forego"

The severance is not that good to be honest. It's sad if you are banking on dells severance as a retirement bonus/payout?

No one should quit over this. Just dont go in and see what happens.

I don't think anyone with any longevity in Dell is going to forego their severance package if asked to return to the office. It will probably move some gruaduates or new hires on instead.

There won't be any email Monday 😉

It will be an email from Mr Dell saying how he was completely wrong about working remotely. that his company was set astray because of it. Other CEOS and leaders were right about RTO. That Dell needs to do an about face and build out more buildings and capital outlays to house employees ......

snickers
nope. nope. dont see that happening.

For all the people punching holes and being rude saying people on here are full of it, I’ll be curious to know your thoughts on Monday after you get the email.

It’s coming. And it’s three days a week.

Heard the official notice is coming out Monday morning.

i’m a non-US employee and I’ve been here for 5 years. I’ve been to other Dell offices around the globe more times than i’ve been to the local office we have here (i’ve only been to the local office here once in my 5 years).

Even when I was in the office there was only one or two other people on the entire floor, 7,500 sq. ft. Most of the time I was the only one on that floor of the building. Even when in the office all of my co-workers on the team were distributed throughout the world. For the past 8 years I have been working from home and it is no different than being the only one on the floor.

For me it's ergonomics. Firm believer in preserving back, knees, elbows, wrists, feet. You get the idea.

Shared fixed cube with garbage equipment for ergo is just a bad idea and downright should be illegal.

Most of the follks who want to be in office usually are running away from their home life. Either it be spouse, kids, pets, inlaws.

And they can be in office as long as they want. Setup a cot for all i care. Just leave the rest of us oout of it.

Why would I want to trade my comfortable home office with natural light, fresh air, the temperature adjusted how I want it, one minute commute and ergonomic chair for a cold, distracting, windowless cubicle and one hour commute each way? And even with that to still sit on zoom all day because my team is scattered across the country.
