Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Rewarding toxic behaviors

It demoralizes me terribly. Why is the company rewarding toxic behaviors? Isn't that working against itself?

I quit because this is not a good place for mental health. Constant pressure to do more and more and more. Constantly told you are not good enough because the priorities change with a new manager. HR does nothing to protect individuals when they report harassment. When you don’t comply or agree, managers try to gaslight you into compliance. I’m still suffering from PTSD.

Best thing I did was quit.

@1zfd+1msSGOOL This. Completely correct on every point. It's how the game is skewed now. Average Joe is abused without consideration, although the truly few who are privileged are oblivious to their delivery of this American corporate culture.

@1kgv+1msSGOOL The part you’re missing is that corporate America seeks out middle managers with sociopathic tendencies who thrive on controlling others. This has become more prevalent recently, especially in EM. The sad reality is that they’re usually so inept that they don’t realize they’re just being used and abused like everyone else.

In part, the toxic environment is created by middle level managers that have no skill sets to find an equivalent paying job outside the company. What you see as toxicity, they view as survival. They stick together and drink Koolaid from Darwoods oil barrel and throw anyone under the bus to promote themselves and their soulless careers.

Toxicity is demanding people eliminate their livelihood by training a person in another country to eliminate their position in the United States. That is toxic! Diversity is the new for of discrimination!

@OP Easy fix: quit.

@dtz You’d need an electron microscope to find any diversity at Exxon.

Some of it is diversity. Different doesn’t mean useful. Don’t get me wrong done are great but some have no business managing people.
