The lucky ones are those laid off. Many don’t realize how much better it is at other corporations. Far better!
I've been hearing the rumors, also. Not surprised. It's really bad for the people I do feel very bad for them and it could be me someday. Performance no longer counts in Cisco. It's a personality contest. Get a new VP or SVP and you could be John Chambers and they'll let you go. I've seen many great colleagues impacted over the years. They go for the older people who are making more money. Luckily for many over 50 they keep them around to make sure they don't get caught on firing for age.
Not to take away from the impact on the employee but what they lose sight of is the customer impact. When they cut the more experienced people, the customer suffers but it's as if they don't care (senior leadership). Customers are starting to wake up though. Services Sales are going down and not only is the portfolio hard to sell but once I sell it the CX team can't deliver it because they don't get the resources needed (they let them go). The new senior management in CX is the worse, by far. They talk a good game but the numbers speak for themselves. The most senior leaders are good at cutting costs and that's all they do now since they can't grow the business. I won't say a name in here when talking about SVP in CX I'm betting others know so tell us who you think it is.
I'm just glad I'm not in that organization but I have to deal with it and not only are customer feeling the pain but so are Salespeople. I'm certain if there are more layoffs it will be the most competent, older, higher-paid employees working with great customer results.
I would never encourage someone to leave Cisco. You can coast for years while getting paid decently. Key word decently. However, understand that the world will not end if you leave. As a matter of fact, you will probably look back at your time at Cisco and laugh at the pay and layoff culture that you endured.
I'd say if you stay make sure you're continuing to develop new skills you can use elsewhere or the Life of Riley will give way to a life of poverty. I've seen what were once executive level people wearing the Home Depot apron complete with name tag in their paint department.

Now that I am away from Cisco and as I watch the impending layoff from afar, I’m so glad that’s not my life anymore. Half of Cisco is probably sweating bullets right now and the other half are in blue pill heaven because they think they could and would never get cut. After all, in their minds, only slackers get cut.
