They’re tracking your ip address. Private browser blocks that.

If you use a VPN, I'd advise using a private browser on top of that. Having session specific data in cookies from a previous session can be risky if you ever forget to turn on the VPN.
What do you mean OP by “private browser”? If your talking about the incognito browser another poster mentioned, that doesn’t block or hide your IP address from websites you visit. That only prevents cookies from being placed on your own computer. If you want to browse the internet anonymously you have to be using a VPN. A lot of people are confused by this. They think that using a incognito browser makes them anonymous on the internet. Nope.

Seriously though, if you aren’t always behind a reputable VPN and an “Incognito” (Google Chrome) or “InPrivate” (MS Edge) browser window then you’re doing this whole Internet thing incorrectly. Even those measures can’t fully protect you if someone really, really wants to track you down. Shouldn’t post or do anything on the Internet that you wouldn’t be proud for the whole world to know about. ‘Cause that possibility is more likely than most people understand.
