I still can't believe Cisco bought Viptela, when Cisco had a similar product in development at the time. What a complete waste of money. It was a classic case of the Cisco "easy button": if the product you are developing is struggling (in most cases, political struggles), just LR everyone, wait 6 months, and buy your nearest competitor.

And I don't have much good to say about Meraki either. I worked with them for a while and their hiring practices were very suspect, and very age biased. And they thought they could do no wrong. When I had a conversation with many of their customer account/support members, their default answer was "we tell the customer what they will get and how it will work....we don't take demands/requirements from customers". That message was direct from a VP, and many Dirs/Managers. I had to bite my tongue to keep a straight face.

Agree..toxic team...I had some bad exp with H1B guys. they hardly know anything and they are PAs.

Viptela is a screwed up product. Those who work in EN or work with EN know the toxics atmospher and group culture in the team. The one of the most political team in Cisco is SDWAN team in EN. I moved last year from this team because i cannot handle the toxic env. Groups inside groups, H1B groups, White ppl group, ethic group .....they promote their own people (no merit). dam!!!! ...actuall numbers to the ELT being manuplicated. Escaltions messages from Parters and CGEM customer are curated. In the end ELT is happy to see the manipulated numbers and curated messages. I heard DNAC is very similar too. Stay away from this team. Workwise Meraki would be heaven for me.

@1gmt+1mxSQy5A I don’t know where you are getting that info. The Meraki sellers are 10x more competent and better to work with than our old school EN sellers. Both can add value but the Meraki sellers arent going anywhere especially because they keep growing (even this year)

Anyone with any dignity and self worth bounced already. Cisco is just like Blockbuster Video because they are always too late to the game and always think they know better what their customers actually want. The convoluted support contracts and bloated licensing model is not how you become a software/dev company. It’s the fast track into oblivion and you are just along for the ride

@1wse+1mxSQy5A that just doesn’t match what the executives are thinking. The Meraki product is getting emphasized, but they realize that the Meraki sellers aren’t very talented. So the product is being given to the smarter sellers (the EN sellers) to go pedal.

False. It’s actually the opposite - Meraki is leading the way. It’s likely that the EN/Meraki team will combine after FY24 but expect the Meraki sellers to stay as the future.

It makes no sense to have separate engineering and sales teams for different switching and wireless products. That stuff has to be streamlined. And Viptela is out on its own competing with Meraki - by the way it crashed today also with an expired hardware cert. Don't think think anyone is left to keep the lights on with that heritage code. Funny how all the Meraki and Viptela principles cashed out and bolted.
