Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Anyone have overachieving coworkers who just need to slow down?

Who else has that one overachiever who makes everyone else look bad?

My processing manager was lazy and doled all her work out to everyone and then took all the accolades. Thank God she got axed last week.

No. Sounds like a great teammate to have though.

Well, the OP didn't clarify what they meant by "overachiever". I have worked with folks who claim that their work load is so heavy that they just can't do it or it takes them double the time to complete their work than it takes anybody else. I have also worked with people who have figured out that if they find a ton of problems with the process or procedures and spend their time "fixing" problems then they don't have to actually do any work. I have found the second group is prone to make statements like the OP because they feel threatened when other employees simply get the job done without all the fuss.

@ciz, sadly I am you - I could have written that post. With the exception that I don't buy anything when I'm in the office - I flat out refuse to out of principle. I also decided that I am no longer making my manager's life easier by doing the work that they can't seem to get anyone else to do and that I didn't mind doing before. I decided this for two reasons: 1) It gets me nothing in return and 2) it's clear that the leadership at WF is purposefully trying to make our lives miserable. I refuse to let them take, take, take from me without them losing something (my extra work) in return. It cannot only be a stick for me and them thinking I'm going to continue to over-achieve for them. They have to feel some of the pain as well.

I know some that think they are overachievers, but really they are just talentless narcissistic blowhards.

We have one who purports to be “so busy” and more grand than the rest of the team. B S. She is a busy body who inserts herself into things, causes chaos and then works “tirelessly” day and night to “solve” the problem. These are issues far outside of her scope and takes her away from her actual work. Brags how she is so rich but refuses to retire because she’ll be bored. She fits a bucket so her games are tolerated and sadly even encouraged by those who are amused by her stories and not impacted by her drama.

So true that if you work hard, you simply get assigned more work.

Then “Agile” comes and everybody is supposed to get 8 points of work per sprint.

Some people get assigned tasks that would take me 1 full day and give it 5 points. Takes them sometimes 1 week or the whole sprint.

After a year of this you’ll get the same 3 Meets as them. If you’re lucky or push, you’ll get a 4 and prob a couple K more bonus max.

Silly stuff.

There will be overachievers, but WF will ki-l that motivation. Overachiever for 10+ years here. Always rated an 'exceeds' for that 2% merit and max bonus. Then we were rank stacked. Our whole team received a 'meets' or less. Forced RTO as a person who was categorized as remote, worked remote for the duration of employment. Now here is how my days go:

  • No meetings before 8:30. I badge in at 8, find a desk, clean it, setup.
  • Boot-up, log-in, Check mails.
  • Break. Walk across campus for breakfast. Enjoy my meal not at my desk.
  • Work about 2 hours.
  • Lunch off campus.
  • Return to desk, login, break.
  • Work about 2 hours, pack up, leave, badge out exactly at 5.

During the pandemic, Chuckles stated in a townhall that productivity was up. When WFH, I always took early meetings, I ate at my desk (maybe a 15m lunch), I stayed late. As a performer, my workload increased as we also have dead weight on our team who are too unreliable to get work done without rework.

There is no reward for overachieving. If you are new, you may get promoted (without even asking for it!). The longer you stay, eventually you will be me.

I used to be but then realized I got punished for it. I got assigned increasingly more work than others and was expected to be available for more work, while others basically work at 10% effort. So now I keep a very strict schedule, no work outside of normal hours or during lunch. They made their bed.

80 percent of the work is done by 20% of the people, so you should have one of these per team.

Ha, there are content-less overachievers/a$$kizzers and then there are performers. If you're complaining about someone who just pipes up but has no substance I agree.

But if you're burnt that someone is outperforming you and you want them to slow down sounds like you need to be in a Union as previously noted.

I don't need to outrun the bear chasing us, I just need to outrun you. And if you happen to be a Team Terd who generates more work for me I'm not beyond kicking your foot into the back of your leg to ensure my exit.

I used to be one, until I saw how this company is being run and the best are no longer being promoted or hired.
Why should I go above and beyond if the company doesn’t value me as a worker?

Good times create weak men, weak men create hard times. We have arrived.

It’s all relative…

I like working with people who are smart, can do a great job and don’t have to work 80 hours per week to get it done. Be around people who will make you better.
