Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Shrinking company with shrinking opportunities

I don't believe that most people would even consider staying here for another 5-6 years. I am wondering about the future of this shrinking company. Can you even imagine what things here will look like five years from now?

Why so many down voting? Thelayoff.com should just eliminate down voting. Leave the up voting only.

Who told you the plan is to 'stay' ? Just milk as much as you can so that you get a good line in your CV and then ditch the mo-o.

How many z16s did it take you to get to a -81 rating on the OP? Oh, wait... Z machines can't really do the sort of minimal "chatbot" AI necessary to drive down posts. And that would be just one of many problems......the only actual money maker (Z) has some serious limitations (can't be used for modern stuff like chatbots.) Feel free to use some non-Z system to vote this to oblivion.

IBM's fate is tied to that of the mainframe and IBM's legacy software products. My own opinion (and that's all it is) is that IBM will be a very successful niche provider in a very small enterprise market. For some business applications (credit card processing, travel reservations and stuff like that), there are no alternatives to IBM products.

IBM is not and will not be a general-purpose IT systems provider. However, it's history as an enterprise systems provider will sustain it, albeit with a much reduced market scope and a much reduced staff.
