Huge layoffs in June or July for all Optum teams (20-40%)

How has no one gone to a news outlet with this yet? They are finding ways around the WARN Act formally, but what they are doing is still wrong-they are still letting people go by the bucketload. Can nothing be done about that?? Karma is going to come one day and I’m sure it won’t be pretty.
That would ruin the element of surprise.
Why don’t the offer voluntary Sev?
Yes, at least every thursday during these months
Listen to what you are writing. 40% is 120,000 people. It's not even logical on It's face. When you are proven wrong in the next few months, come back and apologize for creating unneeded hysteria.
Ref: "Tin foil hat area designed to scare people" - either someone fee invincible or untouchable, in this climate RIFs has been recurring since end of 2022 and continuing into 2023. People do share info. here. Last RIF with two groups were informed concurrently at the same time - One with 100 and the other with 400 members being informed.
What do you gain by convincing "survivors" to look the other way? Maybe you are afraid of being left behind holding the bag and having to take ownership for the mess?
I've stumbled into a tin foil hat area. Outrageous claims do little more than scare people who don't know any better.
yes, and it won't stop at june/july. layoffs will occur throughout the rest of the year.
targets will be for 2024. leaders need as much severance to be paid in 2023 to set them up for success in 2024.
Yes it is true. We have to downsize 10 people (minimum) from our team. The rankings, and cut lists need to be to HR by this Friday for them to prep all the severance information etc for a June notification and July release.
Our VP of Operations leaving after 2 years. Leaving the company all together.
18-20%, end of year target.
Multiple sources.
Good luck to all.
Yes, downsizing will be occuring but in the 8-10% range. If you are a low performer, received a 1 or 2 and/or on CAP prepare to get a notification your role will be eliminated.
The WARN act is real… this org has “mastered “the work around or disregard regulations/compliance - thats the MO until caught.. look at all the violations law suits .. when caught just pay fines .. damage already been done people lives impacted/displaced ..raise your hand if you have been tracking if any previous RIF has exceeded the permissible threshold? ?Only the HR and execs have this info.
Which makes no sense because optum is actively hiring
Any organization would need to comply with the WARN act when more than 500 employees are let go in a 30 day period. So a way to circumvent this long notification requirement is to spread it out over months. If they were letting go anywhere near that % you would get at least a 60 day notification. No way is 20% going at once.
Ref: "Staff already thing"- easy alternative to bring in "temp/contractor" to fill the void. It does not matter whether KLO working or not...secondary until financial gaps fulfilled...seen it before and will happen again-- no strategy just reactive from those are in charge...sadly...Its not logical but this org has been operating like this for many years..
Teams are already thin. There were already layoffs and there is also a hiring freeze. A company cuts 20-40% of their staff if they are in great financial trouble. That is not the case with UHC and Optum. Also, a cut wouldn't list such a big range. It is specific by budget and application area.
Honestly, at this point anything is possible.
