Cisco could never manage its own network equipment and with a never ending list of security bugs why would I open my network to Cisco or anyone else to manage it???
Meraki is Cisco's cloud offering...like it or not.
They are just taking the Catalyst hardware and moving it over and then they will add new features in the UI since the underlying features are already developed - more robust routing, as an example.
1knw+1n06sHFT Wrong. Majority should be on cloud, but not Meraki.
there is a place for on-prem in more complex environments but a vast majority of campus and branch networks could and should be on Meraki
@1wyd+1n06sHFT or customers don’t want linksys in the cloud. They’d still need real switches to do any routing and HA. They want real networking in the cloud.
We can really blame any AM or SE who positioned our on premise networking equipment and not pushing cloud with a Meraki for all of this. It just set us back big time in terms of making meaningful progress and innovating.
Cisco Networking Cloud is embarrassing. This is just a bookmark list with SSO to navigate cisco's org chart. There is no work done on it. It is all powerpoint presentations and fake mock ups. Everyone here in vegas thinks it's a joke. Arista is still number one and eating cisco's lunch.
The product has been announced....now they start development
I'm pretty sure what they announced is going to go live in Q1. The UI might not consistent among all products at launch but at least it opens up the SSO and cross launch while they clean it up.
The security version of this was announced last year and it has made practically zero progress. So how far do you think networking will get in a year, an area with way more customers so more resistance to “break” things?
@qml+1n06sHFT Of course because this should have been done all along. But how long will it take to actually deliver? Will it ever be done, or will things pivot again? Or get to semi-unified then stagnate? Customers wanted this 15 years ago, not 15 years from now. The announcement implies it’s farther along than it is.
I think it sends a strong message. We are going to have a single UI experience, SSO and interconnect our random collection of products today. I'm at Cisco Live and customers are pretty happy about this rather simple announcement.
@ruy Shiny new object. At least for now.
I still don’t get the obsession with ThousandEyes.
Just a launchpad to Thousand Eyes, Intersight, etc. Called a unified Networking Cloud solution. It's basically a single sign-on and hotlink to a bunch of separate apps.
