Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

WFH Question

There's a growing consensus that most people like having an office to go to (more social, separated from kids/partners, etc.) but hate to commute.

As a thought experiment, people should ask themselves: if I could walk 5 min to my office, would I still want to work from home?

No, nobody wants an office to go to.

You're drunk Charlie, and there's no circumstances where we want to RTO. F off and go back to bed.

You’d never get any kind of unbiased feedback from visitors to a site like this.

What growing consensus? Just because you wrote it doesn't make it true. Cite three sources or STFU.

I can walk to a restaurant within five minutes from my house, that doesn’t mean I will be eating there regularly.

If I could walk 5 minutes, wear normal clothes, and eat lunch from home? Maybe. But my peers are still scattered throughout the US.

I drive ten minutes and still detest going in. I work in a suburb and our group is trying to get everyone to be located at an office downtown.
I will do RTO as prescribed in my location but refuse to work in any crime ridden city. Leadership better learn this quickly, I can quiet quit for months before it catches up with me.

Going to the office regardless of commute time is pointless. No peers, reports, managers, or anyone else with a business need to know there. FRTO and everyone supporting our enforcing it.

I'm going to stop you after your 1st sentence. There's absolutely not a consensus on people wanting to return to the office. We can collaborate just fine on Skype and Teams and Zoom.

I go in 3 days a week because I have to in order to keep my job. Doesn't mean I want to.

Nope. My clean bathroom, room to stretch out, office supplies on a desk that I can keep ready. Hot coffee and real half and half, no strangers coughing up a lung. I hate the office and go because they check swipes. I sit in a gross cubicle and put a headset on to have calls. Any real work is at home where I’ve got everything set up to be productive. Actually the worst experience is when I’m on a call with a few people in the office. Lots of echo and feedback, half the room too far away from the mic to be heard. Sometimes we just ask people to go back to their individual desks for better sound quality. Lol

There's a good reason why 10x value creators inevitably work evenings and weekends, and, if they have any social acumen, manage to get themselves excused from most workday time wasting rituals, including showing up at the office…

Nope. Love my home, we set our entire life to be remote. See my child every minute (except for school) and see my wife every minute.

I would need to be forced to the office, never going there.

Happy to go on an occasional trip though, love my colleagues, but family first…
