@1mnq that’s a great one! From now on it’s ModeleDSEL.
Does the e in model e stand for edsel???
Because model e is not a startup. Ford tries to pitch it that way but it still follows traditional ford processes.
It’s because Ford is a “technology” company focused on selling subscriptions.
Careful what you wish for CarCar
I wonder how many EV start up companies there are? I see that Canoo did not make the list.
I think that GM and Stellantis will be successful with EVs. More successful than Ford anyway.
Ford has all their eggs in one basket (F150). The other companies, particularly GM, have a portfolio that stands on it's own a lot better than Ford's.
They can transition more slowly between ICE and EV and still have legs to stand on. If Ford reduces F150 ICE capacity to support 'anticipated' Lightning sales - and if Lightning doesn't sell - there's no safety net.
I don't think you understand what "accounting trick" means...
just wait.....
mE is like a black cat slowly and methodically prancing around in the dark of night, barely noticed by anyone or passersby. Then, when least expected, is poised to strike and take the lead from her competitors. Let's just say the measly other E startups best be on the lookout.....
Tesla has flipped the script. Ford is seen as Kodak, embracing the digital camera too late. Or Blockbuster, embracing mail-order and streaming too late.
Ford will not be a player in EVs. The perception is that traditional OEMs can't compete. By time that they can, Tesla will be a giant, with Rivian and other EV startups taking up the vast majority of the EV market share.
Ford will either go bankrupt. Or will get bought by the Chinese. Either way it will be on Bill's head, the failure of his family's legacy and a 120+ year old company.
Previous comment is false. Model e is set up to be a separate entity within Ford with its own accounting and key leadership.
Because model e is not a start up, it is just one part of a company well over a 100 years old. Plus the fact they don’t actually engineer or build anything completely on their own, they rely on Ford IT infrastructure.
Model E is just an accounting trick, that’s all. I know I used to work there before retiring last year during the purge.
