Never had to do this before other than for managers. Are they telling us to provide the name of our replacement for when they let us go

Succession planning is “standard” in some areas. It’s not necessarily a negative thing. Some leaders have used it as a way to identify those ready to promote.
That being said, in this environment, I wouldn’t view it as a positive, promotional activity.
Are you sure it was the successor or someone who should cover for you when you’re gone? Many departments have been instructed to provide the name of who is covering for them when they’re on PTO moving forward.
