Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Stop the "games"

My team is clearly looking to promote someone, and that's their prerogative, which I understand. However, they're resorting to playing games and using underhanded tactics to "promote" this person. It's becoming incredibly frustrating because sometimes this individual would make a minor change to a configuration file and act like they've built a rocket.
Another problem is their constant game-playing. They keep changing credentials and disabling services, causing me to waste a significant amount of time trying to troubleshoot the issues, only to stumble upon the discovery that "someone" changed something "by accident."
I mean, promote whoever you want, but please stop wasting my time and the company's resources. It's frustrating and counterproductive

Don't get me wrong, I don't pay attention to positions or titles. I understand their importance, but I don't care about them. My concern arises when they start affecting my job or my mental health. It's not about whether the person deserves a promotion or not, for sure deserves; the real issue is that nobody should belittle others in the process. Those who are promoting this person are utilizing the outdated "divide and conquer" strategy to create division and benefit themselves. For the person in question, it may seem like a short-term reward until these individuals become concerned about their own interests. This divide and conquer strategy has been frustrating me ever since I noticed their manipulative tactics a few months ago. It destroys team culture and is highly inefficient. Let's be honest, Fidelity is not a kindergarten.

Sounds like the EI (ECC) playbook. The management in this BU is atrocious and when you try to discuss the issue you get shot down and black listed.

While I understand it’s frustrating being in the situation you are in, instead of waiting for a new manager perhaps you should find one yourself. Apply to a role one next up. Hopefully you will land in a better team, with a promotion.

either promote that person or fire them. Your call. You are the manager. Either one of those choices will end the BS. Make a decision and deal with it. As someone who was a manager once back in the day, and got hired to Fido like almost 17 years ago and has been denied a promotion for silly cr-p for a decade, just make a decision. Personally, I've always had either an EP or SP and I'm well behind my peers for a promotion (because of being re-org'd every year). I told my boss after 2 months of reporting to him to either promote me or fire me, because in another half year or so I'll report to someone else with entirely different expectations. I digress. Done with the beating around the bush. Your call. Because I call BS on all of the reorg cr-p. Merit has no merit when you have to report to a new boss every 9 months or so for a decade. Now do your job. Promote or fire. Nothing in between.
