Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

My team members who didn’t receive the RTO notification as most of us did, got their two weeks notice on Monday

I just learned today, my team members who didn’t receive the RTO notification as most of the team did two weeks ago, they received their two weeks notice on Monday
They count roughly for 15% of the team size
Legg’s team
Moving to Atlanta from San Ramon
Starting date September 4th

"It doesn’t matter. You will either be given the opportunity to stay or told to leave. Knowing How you get to that point is not a requirement of the business."

Thinking that all that matters is "the needs of the business" is what makes work so toxic these days.

This post is a complete lie. The next notifications of layoffs will be 6/22.

"I wonder how many will make the choice to completely overturn virtually every aspect of their lives to take the chance on moving across the country"

It's a great opportunity to move out of that S H I T H O L E and to a better state. New lease on life and breath in all that freedom.

"I've heard some have to re-appy for their job, with no guarantee of getting. Is anyone else hearing that?"

That's been posted several times on previous threads. Specifically, product group was mentioned.

"This mean not receiving the RTO notification is seriously bad"

I guess it depends on what your intentions are. If you're planning on relocating if asked, and your co-workers are being asked, but you're not, it's probably not a good sign. If you know you're not moving anyway, it simply means two things. You will either get a surplus notification instead, so really the same thing as refusing to relocate. Or they might let you continue to work where you are for the time being. It's unlikely, they say they won't, but it's not like it hasn't happened in the past.

"Why are so many people scared to RTO? Is the boogie man there?"

Ok, I'll give this one a benefit of a doubt. You're probably asking about people who worked in offices full time before the pandemic, then got a taste of WFH benefits, and now really don't want to have to go back. I don't think they're scared, but I understand why they don't want to. It's a big waste of time and money, with no real benefit. It's annoying, for sure.

However, what you're likely not considering, is that there are people that are scared, yes, I'm one of them (not like shaking in fear, but definitely stressed with uncertainty), who don't live near those hub locations, and never did, and many were working remote for many years, way before the pandemic. These people didn't do anything wrong. Never changed the way they worked. And now, most of us are facing being thrown out, and no one is truly explaining why. So, scared? Maybe a bit, like I said, but mostly infuriated and frustrated. And the little smart a-s trolls are not helping.

in response to:
"...I wonder how many will make the choice to completely overturn virtually every aspect of their lives to take the chance on moving across the country and hope that they aren't then surplussed within a year ..."

A lot will make the move. Given that thousands decided to stay last year and took a chance even after being told they would lose 25-40% of their pension if they stayed past November 30th.
It's unbelievable how some people think. I guess it's that institutionalized mentality.
So sad

It’s interesting all of the comments suggesting this is BS. Prepare yourself. Each team/org is being treated differently.

It’s not that complicated.

  • If your org designates your work location that requires you to move you can move on your dime or say no and you get the standard severance package that mgmt employees receive
  • If your org deems “X” location as a spoke office you can start going there 3 days per week but hearing 4 or 5 days . No exceptions.
  • if you are >50 miles from

A defined office you qualify for severance

"This is BS. Relocating from San Ramon to Atlanta would be part of Wave 2 which is 18-24 months to relocate, not reporting by September 4. ATS is not even notifying Wave 2 of their move dates until sometime next year. "
Read before accusing others of lying. The OP said "Starting date September 4th", not reporting by September 4.”

Actually not sure what the OP is talking about… I’m in Legg’s org.
Anyone near a hub - other than Dallas or Atlanta- has to report to that hub 3x per week starting Sept 5th.
This was only announced about 2 weeks ago, not sure what an “RTO notice” is. No one needs to move to Dallas or Atlanta by Sept.4th (which is a holiday)

Once the rest of the Indian remote network specialists are hired for $14 per hour then round 2 of management layoff begins as per Stanky.

“My wife got exact letter to report to Dallas
The manager verbally ask you to respond to this offer in email with either yes I accept or No I don’t asap and no later than the end of the week”

This is true. The letter doesn’t ask for your opinion or expect a response from you, it is just a notification
My manager asked me for email response to him with my acceptance
And I did

I wonder how many will make the choice to completely overturn virtually every aspect of their lives to take the chance on moving across the country and hope that they aren't then surplussed within a year of making such a drastic change only to find themselves in a state that doesn't offer robust support for people in trouble?

At the very best they will still be working for T, still dealing with the lies, incompetence, and arrogance of senior executives, and still face the pointless and traumatic reorgs, constant shift in corporate priorities, and endless erosion of benefits.

What can go wrong?

To OP or whoever received the two weeks notice: Can you elaborate what's in the two weeks notice? Is it surplus with severance benefits, or is it termination without severance?

RTO letter is very brief given to you in a one to one meeting with your supervisor
Introduction on the value of work place and collaboration and the pandemic time constraints
Then as a valued asset you been selected to report to Atlanta office on September 4th according to the arrangement with your business unit, no change in title, reporting or responsibilities
Finally if you have questions ask HR or your direct supervisor
Which they don’t give you any good answers

Are you seriously trying to gaslight by telling us the people who are basically going through standard lay-offs now are not receiving any severance? Do you guys get off on trolling around here or what?

The official explanation is the 2 yearly ratings (subjective by boss when its given), realtime rating of employees value based on any unique knowledge and skills (subjective by boss) and these are not equally rated. Using these as justifications to spin the reason why , your boss then ranks his team top to bottom. The real reason is who he likes at the top, who he doesnt like at the bottom and then use the ratings to spin it. Director reviews and signs off on it.

“Did you get a relocation package?”
Dude, no mention of relocation package in the RTO notification, we are seniors and principals engineers, I was expecting some respect when it comes to relocation but no mentions of relocation, ask the manager or the HR no one will give you a solid answer
I think it is take it or leave it kind of offer letter

Please share what was in the RTO letter. So far, nobody who claims that they got one will say what is in it. I'm skeptical.

For the person asking about the severance package - go to HR OneStop and type in “severance”. It’s out there.
