Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Work-life balance

I really don't know how others manage work only 20 hours a week. My experience is not like that at all, I am always overwhelmed with work. Is there anyone else who doesn't think this place is great because of the work life balance?

Self importance is a type of mental disorder.

Try this, take a few of your tasks that you think are so important and skip them for a month. Nothing happened, did it?

At Intel, workers find a way to convince themselves they are more than just a cog in the wheel by conjuring up all kinds of tasks that don't really add any value..

In this way, one can feel better about their contributions and convince themselves they are far to busy or valuable to be laid off. It can also be used as content for your MBOs.

Unfortunately, this doesn't do you, your family or the company much good. At least consider the possibility that you could cut 30% of those tasks for the remaining 70% you could probably find a way to do it in less time.

100% agree. LTD here, I have an endless workload and am stretched too thin. I do non stop high intensity 8-6 every day, a few hours per week later in the day, and a few hours on weekends. It’s a high stress environment for sure. I don’t know anyone around me working less or with a chill job that is constantly posted on this site.

Many managers work excessively out of fear — fear of not knowing something at a minimal technical depth, fear of not being on top of things in a meeting, etc. And the more low-priority cr-p project work clogging the pipelines, the more a manager has to cover/defend. This suffocates innovation.

Upper management needs to eliminate low ROI efforts to clear up a view of better opportunities.

Well, people lie, all the time.

Make a hard stop at 5p.m.. There will be always more to do and if the manager will see that you do more, you are fu---d my friend. This is your life, your health. You are not a doctor and life is not on the stake.

Work hard between 8 to 5, but then says - sorry I have a life. It can wait till tomorrow.

What you mean by 20h? Screen time? If yes it depends on the position - engineers will have less than support and management will have less than engineers.

But if you know someone is working just 20h and then going off, but gettin 40h salary - they are stealing - from you, others, company, and behavior like that must be pointed out and punished:

  1. Talk to the manager - ask what the actual fu-k.
  2. E-mail HR.

If you let people work like that, then you will do theirs work. For me there is one rule- be honest and don’t lie. If you do not feel like working today - that’s good for me, it can wait, get better we are not robots, we can have bad days. But if you lie to me that you work and actually you did not do anything, then I will make sure you will get attention.

For those with teams in India is close to impossible to work only 8hrs a day.

Majority of corporate work is made up busy work, just don't do it.

If you are working more than 40 hours per week, you need to recalibrate your priorities.
Life is short and family time is precious.

I’m too not sure where is this “chill” manger job where I only work 20 hours a week.

Im a manager and I start at 6am and work till 6pm then log on for a hour or so before I go to sleep.

No one is asking me to do it, but I know that this is the time where my 200% is needed for Intel to succeed. And When time comes, I know I will be paid back in one form or another.

To close, Intel is a great company. Yes there were some mistakes, but we are on our way up.

People who work 20 hrs a week - not have enough work or fake work

I am also also manager and my day start at 5 AM and end at 9:30 PM.
Break- lunch 30 min, 1.5 hr dinner break.

Too much work, less people. Other teams around me -> less work… more people.

What I earn peanut-> I missed COVID job bo-m ( could not change job due to green card in process)
