Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Stop Rearranging Deck Chairs....

My fellow employees. Some kindly advice for you. The executive leadership is running for the lifeboats and have their golden parachutes when the ship finally goes down. You are rearranging the deck chairs while some of your other shipmates are being thrown overboard. It is time to face the facts that the unsinkable T is sinking. With this in mind, if you are a 20 something, go find other, cooler, more hip places to work. Better yet, get a trade and don't waste money on those thieving cesspools called colleges. Underwater basket-weaving degrees will not help you when times get rough. If you are a 30 something, find another job in your industry....now. You have a whole career in front of you. You can even move into an entry level at a new business. You have plenty of time to hone your skills. If you are a 40 something, consider a mid-level position in a new company, or why not try your hand at your own business? If you are in your 50's, it's going to be tough, but maybe seek somewhere where your skills can be used for good. Maybe give back a little, or work for a charity. 60's and beyond, you boomers have had a good run, and for the most part, favorable stock markets. If you want employment, go do something you enjoy for a change. You've milked the cash cow for all it is worth. For my fellow employees, whether bargained or managed, I wish you all good luck in your endeavors, and whatever you do, do not sit around here paralyzed with fear. You've got this. Build your own life raft.

Good advice here. If you are not looking for something new, you need to start. There are jobs out there but the process is a real slog especially if you have not been through it in a number of years. It will take months not weeks and can be really frustrating (any exec saying that they haven’t seen an issue with attrition is blind to this).

I heard directly about the issues in ATL and it’s pretty insane that this would be allowed to happen. Unfortunately you need to find a way out as much of a pain as it may be.

To the OP, you are so wise. Everybody needs to hear this. The C suite team is steering like they’re on the SS Minnow. It takes 3 miles to turn an aircraft carrier. We lost this battle a while ago.

Severance is the way forward!

Cough up the dough leadership since you’ve taken away or reduced all our other benefits. Nice new gimmick, trying to get people to just quit without severance but the jig was up immediately, we aren’t imbeciles. Leadership’s empathy is so touching, we feel the love!
