Does anyone know if VZ discloses the reason for the termination to another potential employer? That is, do they disclose if they have been fired?

VZ provides start and end dates, and somehow screws those up when reporting. I was employed beginning mid year 1991 through end of 2018 and VZ reported my tenure as June 2018 to December 2018.
I would verify that the correct dates are provided or HR at a hiring company may toss your application completely for making false statements.
Never think that anyone will view the discrepancy and make an attempt to clear it up.

They do not want any litigation.
All they will say, as others have posted, is that you worked here.
The only thing that is shared is Start/Stop dates, and Position Title. That is all. If you want to share your salary, then a salary key is required. www.theworknumber.com
keep in mind a hiring manager may ask for work references and may contact your previous supervisor/manager.
Recent law changes continue to allow to verify salary or has disclosing the employee's salary and compensation, been blocked.

Many employers will release only basic information when contacted for a reference to protect themselves from lawsuits. They usually confirm employment dates and job responsibilities, salary history, and might include information about whether you were dismissed or chose to leave on your own. Verizon is one of them. If you discover otherwise, then feel free to sue.

The Work Number is a 3rd party, independent company owned by Equifax. They would have no idea who your supervisor was, let alone have their phone number.

Verizon set it up that people have to go through The Work Number. If anyone is sending people back to the company, then you got what you asked for.
By law, Verizon is supposed to share only start/stop date and your position. That is all The Work Number supplies. You use them for new positions, getting home loans, etc. They can never share that they fired you, etc.
Companies do it with voice inflection. Real easy to verify a former employee's performance with the way they verbally respond to an inquiry from a prospective employer. Companies do it all the time on unrecorded lines.

By law they cannot say you were fired. Only when u started and left. If they do. Call a lawyer.
That is how we used to do it. There was a lot of wasted time with some employers that kept pressing for more info, though. With staff reductions we don't have ghat time to waste. We send a full transcript now.
They only disclose your employment stop/start dates and position that you held with the company.
