Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Market Cap: NVDA $1.148T, INTC $143B

INTC popped today, nice $1.22 (+3.68%) gain, which is nice for all the long suffering fools still holding shares (e.g. most of us Intelites, either current or former.)

Then I made the mistake of looking at NVDA, another $9.92 (+2.18%) gain for the day. But that market cap, at $1.148T, which is a whole TRILLION over INTC's cap.

Seriously WTF happened to this company?!?

Intel's cash has been flowing down the toilet for decades. You don't need to be a financial genius to see that.

You financial geniuses belong at Intel.

Market cap is a reflection of all future cash flows discounted to the present value. We don’t know the future which is why the price varies day to day.

The market values Nvidia future cash flow way higher than Intel. They are doubling their cash flows on a consistent basis for the past several years. Do the math - it’s easy to see why Nvidia is valued the way they are.

Intel’s cash flows have been stagnant and you see a 20 year stagnation in the stock.

Market cap (same as stock price) is not a function of revenue, it's a function of the _direction_ of revenue. That's all you need to know to understand INTC vs. NVDA.

When will people stop equating market cap with revenue? NVIDIA revenue in 2022 was $27.3B. Intel revenue in 2022 was $67.4B over 2x as much. Is there too much fat at INTC? Yup. But also remember that market cap is a measure of how the Street values NVIDIA as an investment (as well as Intel). They're betting (because that's what equities markets are, legalized gambling) that NVIDIA will keep posting impressive gains. Intel, not so much.

1mix+1nE3rLN Too little too late because of lack of competitive forces like soviet era planning

@1fob sure, when NVDA's AI bubble finally bursts, INTC will be there with a "day late dollar short" product, just like ARC Alchemist launched after the COVID bubble GPU shortage, and Blockscale launched after the crypto currency mining and price crash.

Intel: the best tech company for uncompetitive products launched late.

@1fob

Just wait for Nvidia earnings report next month, it will exceed all expectations and the stock will SKYROCKET AGAIN.

You heard it here first.

Comparing Intel's current manufacturing ops with TSMC is way too generous. GF would be a fairer comparison.

GF + AMD = 40K heads.

Just wait for the NVidia bubble to burst.

The headcount comparisons between INTC and NVDA are pointless… as are comparisons between INTC and TSMC… you need to consider this:

INTC headcount should be as low as TSMC plus AMD, in the aggregate.

That said, I’ll bet INTC is still 30K over on headcount.

All of my RSU's and ESPP shares are underwater and have been for a couple years now. I generally play the long game with my portfolio and it almost always pays off, but I should've known better with INTC.

Rsc: good for you, at least someone got a benefit from a competitor doing well unlike the rest of us a lost decade and getting even poorer with inflation and interest rates going up

The Peter Principle is strong at Intel. Too many people promoted into decision maker positions that had no business being in such a position.

Every time I check my portfolio I can't help but smile thanks to NVDA and the fact that I got in so cheap several years ago. The recent 4:1 split sure was nice. :)

That's just part 1 of the story.

Part 2:
Intel headcount: 132K
Nvidia headcount: 26K
