Look you guys! As long as the Stankeys and Stephensons of this world keep getting us to fight each other they can keep stealing from us all. Young against old. Union vs non-union. Black vs White. G-y vs straight, ad infinitum. It's a scam and you people are falling for it. Just stop bickering and fight the real enemy.

"....not to mention we're paying in to a program (social security) we'll never get to enjoy the benefits of when we retire. Put yourself in our shoes....."

Actually...I'm 51, sooooooo I am in your damn shoes. But SS isn't going to cease to exist in 2033 (which is the most recent calculation), it will simply not be self-sustaining and/or able to pay 100% of the benefits. But we (you and I) will still continue to receive some kind of payment, though likely reduced, as long as people continue paying into the system. So, perhaps a little understanding of what you're subsidizing, and what your future benefits might be.

Also, the labor force is shrinking. You see lots of comments, even on here, about "old farts who need to get out." Well, as they do, and there aren't the same number of younger workers coming in, you see the resulting low unemployment and labor shortage hand in hand. It's in part a result of lower birth rates, and people just voluntarily 'not participating.' But they don't get counted as unemployed bc they also aren't claiming those benefits. I personally think it may be in part to cash gigs that may get caught if/when the IRS puts the kibosh on PayPal/Venmo/Cashapp cr-p not getting reported as income.

Here's an article that explains more about SS that most people misunderstand.

@yqu+1nEJdb8N,

Way to prove you're just another dope. Social Security isn't "free stuff", you dipspit. We pay into it through taxes while we are employed. So, if we pay for it, it isn't free.

Get it? Free means not paying for something.

And before you go on about how recipients get more than they paid, that's called interest. You know, just like if you buy a CD or T-Bill you get more at the end than you initially paid.

But hey, you keep being your ignorant, opinionated, uninformed self.

You all keep voting for "free stuff" party and policies.
Welcome to the real world. Nothing is free.

@cdx+1nEJdb8N I disagree. I am part of the "younger" generation and all we want is to be able to afford to live. Our parents, grandparents are/were able to work a 9-5, while the wife was home, and still be able to afford a decent living. It's no surprise that the younger generation is disillusioned at what our economy has become not to mention we're paying in to a program (social security) we'll never get to enjoy the benefits of when we retire. Put yourself in our shoes.

Eh, the problem is that "younger generations" want to work LESS but make MORE. And well, things like student loans aren't part of "living my best life," so they shouldn't have to pay all that back, despite any bad choices they made themselves.

Don't see what any of that has to do with AT&T layoffs, though. I don't think the company is attracting younger workers, except for maybe sales and marketing.
