Why?

We were ready to comply but were then told to continue working from home until Weds Nov 1st. We are still assigned to the same pre-covid location. We have plenty of work so we can't see any reason our RTO is delayed.

I wasn't upset by the prospect of the RTO. I do see a few drawbacks.

Personal phone calls in a shared workspace
Smokers returning to the shared workspace
Spilled/dropped food in a shared workspace

We have observed a small but significant loss in productivity. Prior to RTO we could respond more fluidly to the changing demands of the business. Now work can begin only after a commute to the office. We are adapting, but during a team meeting on the topic we had to acknowledge that going forward we would meet expectations less than 100% of the time.

My team was not told to RTO. Last Thursday several people in Brno started asking questions about our work. We informed our manager that the Brno people did not have a need to know. In hindsight our manager's reaction should have raised a red flag. At 8:30 this morning we were advised our work would transition to a team in Brno in February 2024. We will be notified individually of any potential for continued employment. It would have been nice had they been prepared to have that conversation rather than leave the 12 of us in limbo.

"Union folks just show up and get the work done" I was previously represented in OH, NJ and NY. I met with some of the local leadership after moving to TX. I am not impressed. I questioned the lack of results shown by the CWA in TX over the past 10 years. You would think I had insulted the gods. I was told AT&T lived in te---r of the CWA. I declined to join following that conversation. The CWA has become a joke. They need to raise the bar for leadership and members alike.

"That scenario just doesn't exist in AT&T's vision of the future"

Exactly! I parted ways with the CWA five years ago. I too was a sheep for years, but finally realized they were doing nothing for me.

The CWA has done a disservice to the craft folks, taking their money, leading them with a carrot, and leaving many with the disillusionment that there exists a version of the end game where ANY craft remain in the company. That scenario just doesn't exist in AT&T's vision of the future.

If leadership admits that the whole open environment & workstation setup was a mistake, and brings back the offices and cubicles, the hybrid work play would be better received. What mindset thinks that signing up for workstations every day is sustainable for anyone?

"why are there so many managers without a crew to manage."

I guess you haven't been around telecom very long. Here's the scoop noob. In the Bell System and its many fragments, all the word "manager" means is the person is not protected by the collective bargaining of the union. When there is a strike "managers" have to scab or be fired.

How many more of these d-mb posts are we going to have and how many times do we need to explain it to the craft folks.

Don't worry they'll carve the union up soon enough too.

I actually prefer the hybrid scenario.

My RTO office is only 12 miles away. If it was 1,000 miles away, I’d be upset.

No complaints here. I offset my gas prices with all the toliet paper I use. Janitors even put a plunger at every toilet for me.

Because it's not simply "return" to office. For many it's a forced relocation on your own dime.

People complaining about going to to a pre-pandemic office don't get my sympathy, but those being forced to relocate or go to a new location adding hours a day drive time sure do.
