Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Which company is worse run: T or Twitter?

T has Stink and Twitter has Elon. Both companies are considered Tech, and both are currently in some pretty bad situations. Both are also now considered among the most toxic work environments, but I wonder which is worse?

Stink was deeply involved with both the DTV (2015) and TW (2018) mergers, spending over $150B and resulting over $100B in unsustainable debt even after unloading both companies. Stink also was involved in such business disasters as DTV Now, AT&TTV, and HBO Max. Under Stink's watch there have been multiple layoffs each year to compensate for his incompetence, resulting in a near 45% reduction in headcount from 2015 (281,000) and 2022 (160,000). Finally, Stink has driven the stock price to 30+ year lows.

Elon spend $44B on acquiring twitter simply because he was butt-hurt, and immediately went on a tirade, laying off a staggering 66 - 82% of his workforce (numbers are inconclusive since Twitter is no longer public). He also eliminated nearly every restriction on content, causing a surge in hate, racist, and threatening posts; implemented many policies that were unpopular (monthly fee for verification, etc); and has made numerous ad hoc decisions which were later reversed. All of this has resulted in a 50% drop in ad revenue and a drop in at least 5% of the users.

Both Elon and Stink are arrogant pr!cks who have created cults of personality around them, and who run their companies through intimidation, destroying employee morale and creating toxic workplace environments. Stink's actions include openly lying to employees, and conjuring up this RTO and Hub policy that is further eroding any trust in his capabilities. Elon, on the other hand, is refusing to pay rent from the time he took over in Dec 2022 for office space in multiple locations, and has routinely engaged in juvenile behavior including insults, threats, lies, and knowingly spreading misinformation and conspiracy theories. His most recent move is to try and pick an actual fight with Mark Zuckerberg.

It's tough to chose which is worse. My guess is that Twitter is slightly worse because Elon is a bigger d'ouchebag because of his social media behavior. But then again, that's like saying it's better to die from brain cancer than liver cancer because there's slighly less pain.

Twitter is in a free fall, due to Elmo’s utter ignorance of how to manage a social media company. He fired 75% of the workforce, and lost 60% of his revenue. He has a massive debt load. Twitter’s valuation has cratered by over half. Elmo can’t be fired because he owns the company.

Stankey is cutting everyone so he can sell AT&T for pennies on the dollar and get a massive golden parachute. He’s also incompetent and should have been fired long ago but AT&T’s board are Stankey’s servile lackeys.

In short, both are awful.

Even if Elon were to ruin twitter, which has always been terrible just like the rest of social media, it would only be the first. Stanky has ruined a long list of companies along the way, including T.

Elon lets his ego run wild with Twitter. He had nothing left to lose as he over paid by billions. Meanwhile AT&T runs it business based on pleasing their shareholders, always chasing the next acquisition to generate easy cash flow. Randall should have known DTV was a bad idea when he polled his interns at the time to see what service they used and no one raised a hand as they were already onto streaming. A few short years later TW came calling looking for their next sugar daddy. Then COVID shows up shortly after TW deal close. What a whammy that was or was it Karma catching up to the Dallas CowDongs? At this point how do you dig out of this hole as the business model is not able to generate enough profit to pay the dividend and cut into the massive debt. Without a bailout from a large investor willing to buy out T, it is going to be miserable for long time unless we get maybe another President willing to give out another 30 billion tax cut.

"Couldn’t expect Elon to turn Twitter around overnight considering it was run by delusional people who believe a man that tucks his d**k and sack back are women. "

Well, Elon's coddling of extreme fascists, racists, and bigots sure has done great in "turning it around", hasn't it?

At this rate, Elon will make twitter as popular and successful as Truth!

Twitter, by far. The big difference between Stink and Elon is Stink stays out of the spotlight. Elon keeps flapping his childish mouth and it costs him every single time.

Did you know Threads was initially launched in 2019?

https://techcrunch.com/2021/11/17/instagram-will-shut-down-its-companion-app-threads-by-year-end/

Twitter was toppled by a failed app that was rebooted in response to Elon's stupidity. Let that sink in for a bit.
