Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Another week, more stress at T

Another week is about to begin and I'm already starting to feel the stress and anxiety build up. I remember a time when I could sleep normally the night before Monday but with the direction of the company lately, that hasn't been true for a while. If the job market was any better I'd already be gone.

The C suiters are actively seeking to induce this type of apprehension. Their goal is for folks to depart on their own volition (sans severance)…due to burnout and attrition.

I can only assume you all are like 55+? It’s time for you to move on to Walmart or Home Depot.

The majority of the senior employees helped build the original AT&T. This is not the same company. It is sb c. And when I see remarks about age and the offices look like retirement homes, it’s evident that certain people want to push out the seniors. One person was even overheard saying employees were on canes etc., in Atlanta. People making these comments don’t respect the fact that the elder employees basically aged within the workplace. We put in 30 plus years of blood, sweat and tears. I thank God I’m part of the boomer generation, (AGE 60) and I made my 30 years this year! When the company decides to chop those of us in occupational… I can definitely say, it’s been an interesting experience. Blessings to all of you. Even the ones who want to get rid of the 55+ employees.

I am stressed too. I am lazy and try to avoid work as much as possible. Kinda stressed that they will find me among all the others.

The statement you made above is clear that your situation is not that bad. If it was you would be looking now.

"Remember, stress is something we do to ourselves. You can't control what is happening, but you can control how you and your body respond to it. "

This is perhaps one of the most facile things people can say. The truth is if you have a family, a mortgage, health concerns, etc one simply cannot not worry about whether they will have a job or not because an arrogant and incompetent CEO might come up with yet another stupid idea that ends up needing to let people go.

Stress in this case is no self-inflicted, but caused by external circumstances. Pointless homilies like this are not only wrong, but very stupid.

Work doesn’t stress me out. They taught me years ago to not give a sh1t.

OP - have you started looking? I agree the job market is not good. It takes months to complete even one interview process to find out at the end you didn't get it. For everybody else that is not going to move, I would start looking now.

I slept fine. And my morning was bright, sunny, with the promise of a great day ahead of me. I am relaxed, content, and am looking forward to tackling all of the new tasks for the week.

Oh, did I mention I'm no longer with T? Yeah, that has a lot to do with my outlook.

Being at T means one forgets that life and work can often both be very pleasant. Get out of T now and rediscover that feeling.

If misery loves company we should all be feeling the love. It’s primarily the uncertainty or unknown that causes the racing heart feeling upon waking from a restless night of sleep. Prepare for the worst case scenario and just take a deep breath knowing many of us are feeling the same thing! It su-ks. But it WILL all work out. Maybe even better so.
Hang in there people! We got this.

I’m feeling you, friend. I’m in a funk I haven’t been in for awhile. For those 50 applications you put out there, you might get one callback too. Just remember, inaction is unacceptable. Do what you need to do and get to work.

Same here. I’m waiting for a few personal changes and will then be looking for a new position. This isn’t worth the stress and uncertainty. Stankey changed this from a job I enjoyed to a job I dread.
