I am posting because I wanted to share my 2014 experience working for the AT&T Business Marketing Org under Steve McGaw. I had worked in that org for 4 years under Rosie Kitson who was our VP at the time. Our team was filled with top performers who loved their jobs. We were spread throughout the country, but given that our motto was "Mobilizing Your World" as a company, we were able to get everything done in spite of not being in a hub or going into an office daily.
Then Steve McGaw looked at a spreadsheet and declared "I don't like seeing 2500 employees so spread out". That was the extent of his "expert" analysis. It was decided that everyone needed to move to either Dallas or Atlanta. At the time, Rosie said that Dallas was a great city in spite of having her primary residence back in NJ and a townhome she commuted to, and we would all love being there. The organization assumed that only 30% of people would quit rather than move.
Guess what? Our team ended up with about an 80-90% attrition rate. The team completely fell apart and nothing got done for over a year. They were never able to replace the people who quit. At the time they had not yet embarked on the disaster of DTV, Warner Media, RTO or any of the other awful decisions that would tank a once great company. I stayed on for 4 more years because I happened to be in a hub, but the writing was on the wall. I am glad I hit the "eject" button when I did, but I really feel the pain of everyone on here that is literally going through he-l. The people at the top don't give a damn about you, your family or anyone else. I have never met worse management in all my career than when I was at AT&T. Believe me when I say that if you do leave, you will be better treated, better paid and your well being will great improve. Thank you for reading my post.
