Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Why are any of you still there???

Honestly, what needs to happen for you to think, "Hmm, maybe, just maybe it should be time to dust off my resume and get the he-l out of here?" AT&T keeps taking and taking and finding new inventive ways to make everybody's lives miserable and most of you are still fighting to stay there? I feel so lucky I got away when I did, I can't imagine turning into whatever you all turned into.

because AT&T employees are lazy. they know what is necessary to just do the job and keep the job. it is an easy paycheck period. you wont get rich or anything but its somewhat a life. even the management jobs are like ditch digging...low IQ is fine

I'm here because the severance will ease the loss of 3 weeks vaca, reduced to 1 or 2. Many worked to have family time later in life. Giving up the vaca is giving up family that will soon start their own lives.

Because I believe these unemployment reports are fake, I'm going to file for unemployment for the first time just to make sure the REAL numbers are being included for the report. And maybe I will find out how many people are turned down for unemployment if govt. cannot afford to pay it. Do they still count the job loss?

"Unemployment is still holding at 50 year lows. I keep an eye on that. Right now, the coast is clear."

Really? Folks quit listening to the fake news and do some research. This poster probably believes we are not in a recession yet as well.

Looking now to escape, for right offer. Best case is I get terminated with severance at about same time. Looking to get fired, just want my cake and eat it too.

Human nature is to stay. Perhaps there is sliver of hope that things will change. Most people won't leave until told to.

That's why company's don't true up pay for existing workers. Most will just stay and continue to take the beating. It takes effort to get out. And unless something directly happens to them, most will grumble and soldier on. Companies know that and attrition stats back it up.

Guilty of it myself until recently.

Riding that gravy train. Good pay, low stress job, don't pay attention to anything but the going on in my office.

Unemployment is still holding at 50 year lows. I keep an eye on that. Right now, the coast is clear.

For some reason, I think the OP has already left, and misery loves company.

Why you still on this board if you left? That’s the real question.

Plenty of people needing a couple more years to hit the pension payout.

Leaving in Sept. Got another offer today. $92k more than I make at ATT, fully remote will never have to RTO, some travel, plus bigger bonus and stock options. Thanks for forcing me to look outside the company. Haven’t put in my notice yet, think I’ll wait till 2 weeks out just to be sure. C-ya.

Many are trapped with no other options due to outdated/limited skills.

I’m only looking for two more years. There’s really no reason to start over elsewhere and lose my vacation time, etc.
that’s a good question for younger people though.

I’m still here because I make excellent money, have a work life balance, have no debt, and work from home. Not every part of the company is toxic. Trust me I’ve worked in very toxic parts of this company, but where I am now it’s great, my leadership team is great, I enjoy my work.

Inertia. Bodies at rest tend to stay at rest, and the idea of going through a job search is kind of intimidating and overwhelming to some.

So those folks just hope they get spared, and are willing to endure whatever level of humiliation and maltreatment T will heap on them to avoid having to put in the force needed to overcome their inertia.

With T that force almost always shows up in the form of a layoff.

I’m going to keep doing my job until they turn my access off. In the meantime I’m getting certified for a new career.

The reason is FEAR.
I left last year with no back up plan, no job lined up and was here for over 20 years. I left due to 35-40% loss I would have taken on my pension and it was a scary decision but it was an obvious choice for me.
I could not be happier.

I come to this site every so often just to see what I left behind.
Most of you are scared but when you make the jump you will see how much happier and relaxed you will be. No job is worth the stress.

Stay below radar. Stay connected on your VPN connection, maybe see what's new on NetFlix on a separate computer. Always set chat profile to "busy."

Give it a few months, things will change, as it always does.
