Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

For all those sycophants who said they had studies to show WFH can't work

https://thehill.com/business/4110598-remote-employees-work-longer-and-harder-studies-show/

RTO conflicts with BofA's ESG policies and commitments but that's never addressed. Average of 72 minutes commuting per day x everyone told to RTO = +/- 120,000 hours per day of unnecessary commuting emissions, and that's using less that 50% of total employees. That's a commitment saving the environment and reducing greenhouse gases?

Given the increase in productivity, the reason of "our culture" takes a big hit. How many teams are spread across many sites, causing workers to drive in only to end up on Web meetings all day, but get more work done when they don't have to do that commute? Quite a few, apparently. The numbers support it, despite what people insisted on this site when mass wfh began.

RTO is all about perceived loss of control by mgt and a way to reduce headcount by getting people to quit.

In some companies ESG is just related to their facilities , use of corporate jet, etc and not workers commutes etc. But if BofA was serious about this they would really look hard at the end to end. Think about it, not only gas and carbon emissions, dry cleaning chemical, processed foods, commercial airlines emissions, healthier employees ( mental and physical) , parents being present with their kids ( so they don’t become thugs) . The list goes on.

People talk about gas and emissions, but the wear and tear on the car also has a negative carbon impact. Wearable items like the tires, oil changes, energy used to create the parts for repair, wearing out the asphalt leading to road repair and more negative carbon impact. Cost of building and cooling and heating offices, parts, repairs. Increased car accidents, worse physical and mental health levels, do I need to go on?

I think it’s funny/ironic how the government and basically the entire world made commitment to “save the environment”, and they’re big pushes for electric vehicles … but a solution that actually works such as wfh or mostly working from home (4/1 instead of 3/2) is ignored. I am not stupid I know this RTO thing is much bigger than the bank just doing it because they can it’s all greed. From commercial real estate to local cities making money from tax collection and the people forced to live there to come in. I know few people who would live where they do if they didn’t have to commute to work…. Regardless no body cares about the individual it is all greed and people in a lot more control than we will ever be
