Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Anyone talking about the age discrimination comments in office outside of this board?

Now that there is more of a ‘water cooler’ is this being discussed? Anyone talking about getting this out in the world? I spoke with someone with an HR background and a couple of lawyers I know and they all agreed that the remarks were a real problem and the recording would obviously help. The fact the potentially thousands heard this in real time does help though.

This needs to get beyond these message boards and media love this kind of stuff when it happens in big companies.

Have been following various threads Appreciate this one - so thank you. According to a few attorney firms I contacted, they would have taken my age discrimination case for free. However I was not to sign the arbitration agreement. My husband is 100% Disabled Veteran so we could not risk losing our home. I started a blog about workplace ageism and age discrimination as a source of resources I couldn’t find.

I am hopeful that JS saying the quiet part out loud will resonate with many like me and someone will take him to task.

"People need to either move up, or move on. Stop blocking up middle management positions. "
No eliminate those positions and save money.

If those person went on strike would it affect business and customer service? No!

No chance 90% are 50+. There's 2 people on my floor in Dallas that are over 40. Pretty much everyone except for our AVP is younger than 36.

The days of being in the same job at the same company for 30+ years are gone.

People need to either move up, or move on. Stop blocking up middle management positions.

The old workers are still trying to figure out how to call their internet to get the info.

Those old workers invented the internet, junior. You just freeload off their accomplishments.

The same thing was said several times in the past, I recall it being said before covid when they wanted to move people to hubs.

In reply to the following, ensuring your awareness that the old workers have been around long enough to know to record the calls themselves.

If 90% of the employees at AT&T are over 50, we ain't running a business. We running a convalescent home.

90% of the employees at ATT are over 50. How can you call the kettle white?

The median years of service is now 5.6, so no way.

I heard office talk.
People who didn't watch definitely wanted to know what was said.

The two things that kept coming up were McFluffy's "who asked that?" and Stinky's "we want a younger work force".

Someone who recorded Stankey's comment needs to publicly post (if they dare) or get it to a major media. Then Stankey will start to crumble. I didn't attend the town hall

Get in touch with the appropriate federal agency , make a complaint , and have them open an inquiry.

Not that much. Similar to Employee Engagement Surveys, most don’t submit honest feedback but instead turn to anonymous message boards online to become keyboard warriors
