Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Promotion Criteria?

I’m a recent hire and was hoping to get clarity on how long is typical to stay at a given CL.
Assuming new hires come in at 23, and most people won’t make executive (30), that leaves 6 promotions over a career.
From what I’ve seen early promotions are typically:
After 1-2 years: promoted to 24
After 3-6 years: promoted to 25

If an engineer with 5 years experience is a 25, when do CL bumps begin to take longer? Is there a requirement to be excellent/outstanding to go from 25 to 26 to 27 and so on? What CL do most people retire at?

@1zdb is correct and must be a supervisor. Posting advancement guidelines in the layoff. Quite scandalous!

New hires are lured in with money and promises of promotions and career growth. Reality is they will squeeze every drop of blood from you. Unless you are a hipo, you will find yourself working a lot of overtime to “help” your boss career prospects and to stay “competitive” in your rank group.

Forget about the yardstick of CL levels and timeline of promotions. Find work that is meaningful, offer growth for you, and have impact. A popularity contest within the world of EM is meaningless.

The TAMU and BYU statement is accurate. Legacy practice at its best.

You'll make 26 in 13 years and then get rolled in a dark alley.
TAMU and BYU exceptions.

Get on with your life.

Coming to a layoff site asking these ridiculous questions speaks to your intelligence. I’d be figuring out how to exit this heck hole for a better job because with your level of intelligence you’re either destined to be a sls or piped if you don’t have a sponsor. May as well tell us who you are so we can get you on the hipo list

Chosen people are fast tracked.

Find a sponsor.

Sell your soul. Dress the part, act the part, talk the part, and be willing to sacrifice all morals. Take credit for work of others. Throw others under the bus whenever required, even if it destroys their careers and ability to provide for their families.

Do not make friends with anyone with no ability to advance your career.

Do not trust anyone outside of your own sponsor and his click.

OP, the question is: why the heck did you come to Exxon? Clearly you know about this forum and you must have read the comments. Please tell us why you decided to come to this sh-t hole. I'm curious.

If you never leave site, 27 is probably end of the line CL for you unless you are super talented and managed to kiss the right bottoms, you might retire at 28.

The promotion guide for your group is what you’d use. It’s in BEQOM and is visible to your Supervisor during promotion planning (pretty much automated now). Promotions happen based on your YE and your current year assessment. The guide will say something like: CL 24: To get to CL 25 you need a YE of 6 for Outstanding, YE of 9 for E and VG, YE of 14 for Good and YE 99 for NI and NSI. Just depends on your group on how aggressive the guide is. To get a bump you must meet criteria in promotion guide OR be eligible to be off guide and get exception promotions. To be eligible for off guide promotions you must be Supervising employees.
