Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Good morning fellow inmates

How many of you regularly used to put in 50 to 70 hours a week with no OT or comp time but just can't seem to make yourself do that lately?

I still put in a good 40-50, but just can't seem to push beyond that right now. The work is just piling up.

When our team was hit hard with layoffs and we were swamped with work, the organizations that we interfaced with started to squawk and say that we were "unresponsive". I just laughed and said welcome to the "new normal". There is only so much weight that can be put on the burros back before the animal collapses.

Regularly putting in 70 hours a week? Seven days of ten hours each? You have to be kidding.

I do my required time and go home. No early mornings, no evenings and certainly no more weekends. 9-5 is what they get now and I take min 30min lunch with my 3 days in the office required. When I’m wfh those 2 days, I’ll usually login earlier and stay a little later. Otherwise, I do what I’m asked and that’s it.

"I only work eight hours a day. Well maybe six. They say I’m old so I take a nap on the clock every day"

If you are too old to work 40 hours a week, you belong on a surplus list. BTW, I'm 60.

Comrad, I log in, spend my 2 hours working, then log off for rest of day.

Why would anyone put in more than 40 hours if you aren’t getting paid for it? That’s just insane to work for free for T.

"You need to prioritize. Sometimes things don’t get done, and other times the work you do turns out to be unnecessary. And please clarify, you are in the office more than 8 hours a day? RTO?"

I worked in office regularly by choice. Until the infamous Stankey letter came out, now just 3 days a week.
Over the years sometimes I'd wfh after my day at the office, other times I'd just go in early, stay late and go in on the weekends.

Most employees have been giving the absolute bare minimum for years. So there really is going to be no change.

I’m in the office every day. Even during the pandemic. I come in early-ish, like 9:30am and then talk to other folks for a good bit (glad they’re all forced to come back - new podcasts to discuss), then get coffee around 11am and check emails. Delete all the ones from AT&T, click thru the coupons, and then reply to anything from my Associate Director. I usually just cut and paste this response “Spoke to legal about updating language, they need to speak to Michael and he is out of office until next week. I will follow up if no response by tomorrow.” My Associate Director is cool because she always replies “Thank you, keep me updated.” Funny thing though. I have never even talk to legal. Then I take lunch from 11:30am thru 2pm. There is a great strip mall across from the office. I grab shrimp tacos or a honeygrow bowl. Then I do some grocery shopping, but not the cold stuff. Get back to work about 2pm. See if anyone pinged me on Teams. Maybe ping someone. Then just zone out until 3:45pm. I don’t like to watch Tik Tok anymore. So usually put a Netflix show on my EMO leaned up against my laptop screen. If you put a tall water bottle on the left and a binder cracked open on the right. Play a John Stankey webcast on your main screen so it looks like you’re working. If someone walks by just exclaim, “This Stankey guy is the right guy for the job, we need to fire all of the old people!” Around 3:45pm, head over to store to get the cold groceries. Then head home. Have a nice white wine. Post on this site about how WFH people do laundry and watch kids.

It’s not just hours, I’m not putting any more innovative thought and strenuous effort other than the bare minimum I have to do. I will put in effort if it’s something it’s valuable that I can take with me to the next employer. T don’t care? I don’t care. I can tell many people are feeling this way with the emails and projects have slowed down

I am done as well. I used to give ATT my commute hours for the privilege of working from home. Now they do not get that time from me anymore. When I disconnect from my work cell I am done for the day. 10-15 hours a week gone. No more connecting from home unless it is my WFH day.

Yes. I’m DONE doing the work for 2++ people.

Manager Medical Retiree Benefits Gone.
Manager Previous VAC days Gone.

I’m DONE.

Only doing the work of ONE person now. No sense in ki-ling yourself over it.

Clearly, AT&T leadership doesn’t appreciate it.

Clearly
