Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Younger employees..

JS's comments are wrong and discrimatory. If you think it's okay.. and want to mock the older employees that help build this company.. defending JS will eventually bite you in the azz.. karma.

1nQOzymb, I would humbly ask you why you said, “ …If you press them [the Company] on this you have to be prepared to work for less to compete with the younger employees’ pay levels.”
How have your handlers so conditioned you son that you would not instead argue that young people should be prepared to work for more.
Why do you not realize your own worth son?

In my experience, both competence and maturity are completely unrelated to age. No excuse for what Stank said or the policy that no doubt lurks behind it, but as devil's advocate, the real reason they are after the older employees is that they are the highest paid employees. If you press them on this you have to be prepared to work for less to compete with the younger employees' pay levels.

Someone must have recording and will post maybe on YouTube soon standby. Even if they don’t, people can attest to what they heard, and company will need to provide unedited video/transcript.
Company would actually be smarter (legally) to share recording like they always do to avoid suspicion of why this one didn’t follow precedent that’s been set.
If not, they’ll have another issue starting with “why wasn’t this shared?” All other CEO messages have been made available to employees who couldn’t join due to a conflict for a critical business need.
Stay tuned for someone to share or someone’s lawyer to request original. I believe company will be legally shrewd enough to share unedited version, they just need lawyers to listen to be ready with responses.

Here's a concept... instead of judging people by their age (too old, too young), how about judging people by what they actually do? To do otherwise is discrimination, plain and simple. You might as well substitute "old" for any other stereotype out there (just use your imagination). Wouldn't that sound discriminatory, and possibly racist?

I know older employees who are very much on top of the latest technology and how to apply it at AT&T. I know younger employees who can do the same. I know younger employees that have absolutely no idea how a certain technology works (and, as an older employee, have had to coach them.. some pick it up, some do not).

JS should be ashamed of his comments, and I truly hope he is held accountable for them. In the long run, AT&T is going to suffer because younger employees and those more seasoned will not be flocking to AT&T because most are wise enough to see how employees are treated here. I have my own exit plan and am really looking forward to my next chapter. I might be older, but I know more about certain evolving technologies than absolutely anyone in my larger group- young or old. (I do encourage all employees- no matter the age- to work hard at staying on top of their fields.).

Sometimes yes, but most of the time it's because when AT&T has a project to do something new, they assign it to an entirely new team and not an existing team doing similar work. This results in the stagnant skills and "set ways" that are pervasive in the organization, the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing and siloing of teams.

older employees are too set in their ways . young employees can still be molded into the employees companies want to create. att is changing and so are the employees T chooses. new way of thinking is in and old way of thinking is out. you dont live forever old people go out an enjoy the time you still have left.

New employees learn by doing. It is the best way to learn. In fact, older employees moving into new positions learn by doing. Employees that have worked a long time in a position provide the necessary guard rails to keep everything working properly. That is the way work works. To the young person who said we “don’t do nothing “- wrong. We do our work and guide you in your work.
