Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

I’ve decided to start answering questions, from my manager, like Charlie Scharf

My Manager: Bob, how are you coming on that high-priority project??

  • Me: “I will get it done.”

My Manager: What is the ETA?

  • Me: “I been very careful not to put dates out there because I have to do my work.”

My Manager: I know you have to do your work. What have you gotten done?

  • Me: “I have implemented a lot, but I still have more to do.”

My Manager: What, exactly, have you implemented? Give me a breakdown of what you’ve accomplished so far.

  • Me: “I don’t want to get ahead of that process, but I continue to move forward.”

My Manager: What process? What are you moving forward on?

  • Me: “When I look at the work I have to get done, the fact that it’s there is a statement of the reality that I still have more work to do. And so it’s critical that I continue on my road to complete that work. And so that’s the way I’m thinking about it today.”

My Manager: Huh?? Can you frame it from an innings perspective or a percent basis ... how far along are you in terms of achieving the end-goal of the project?

  • Me: “I appreciate your desire to have me answer those questions. But again ... my view of accomplishing the work doesn’t matter.”

My Manager: Bob, you were hired specifically to lead this high-priority project. Your evasiveness is beginning to cause great concern.

  • Me: “I really don’t think it’s helpful or productive to go beyond what I’ve said at this point.”

My Manager: I have no choice but to put you on a PIP.

  • Me: “Sure, go ahead! I hear I was the only who took the job.”

That’s as believable as thinking there are 100 distinct people here who are upvoting and not the same 7 people on this board every day who don’t even work for WF anymore and spend their time making up rumors and upvoting themselves.

Hmmm. Apparently the real reason Charlie and friends are hiring so many in India is to be able to have a team dedicated to downvoting negative posts and comments about him into oblivion.

This was one if the funniest posts ever. I rarely comment but this was hilarious. Who is down voting these posts today?

Who’s the other troll upvoting 80 times? It wasn’t that funny.

In all seriousness, OP makes an excellent point. How can employees be held to a higher standard than the CEO who makes a multiple of 287 times the average employee?? What kind of an example is Charlie setting?

My manager holds my feet to the fire in my Performance Review in that my goals have to be Specific, Measurable, and Time-based. No exceptions.

Shouldn’t the CEO be held to a higher standard than the employees?

What put Wells Fargo in trouble with regulators in the first place? Our leaders acting as if the rules don’t apply to them. Our leaders thinking their power and position makes them immune to consequences. Our leaders being entitled. Sound familiar?

FYI - one of the top 10 reasons for employees to sue their employer is “inconsistent discipline”, which fosters an environment ripe for discrimination claims.

"The hired troll is working overtime to manage perceptions that just as many people love charlie as hate him."

No, just one person with multiple browsers.

The most ridiculous, and funny, is “ When I look at the work I have to get done, the fact that it’s there is a statement of the reality that I still have more work to do. And so it’s critical that I continue on my road to complete that work. And so that’s the way I’m thinking about it today.”

Apparently I am not the only geek who listened to the earnings call.
