OMG. You people that say we're lazy or grousing about not doing Costco runs or mowing lawns: go into any Atlanta office on a Wed. Try to make a reservation for a day you didn't expect to have to come in but now told to do so for an in person meeting (which is on Teams with people in other parts of the country). YOU WILL HAVE NO WHERE TO WORK. Not unless you want to sit at a counter or booth in a break room

This is f@#$%@ insane that to demand everyone in the office and not have enough room for them all

Working in the office is far less productive than working at home for many of us. The commute uses valuable time, then you get to an office with limited parking and have to find a seat and hope there is proper equipment like Monitors, keyboards, docking station, etc. There are always noises to impact your concentration with people on calls, in groups chatting, companion dogs running up the aisle, etc. If you supervise and need to make/receive a confidential call you have to search for an empty room with a door. Rarely is there anybody you work with in most cases, so collaboration is not happening. Dirty break rooms, restrooms and sick people coughing, sneezing and blowing their nose then you wonder who sat at the desk you are at before you.

Stankey needs to sit in a drop in desk for a day and see how unproductive the drop in environment is

For those spouting we should just get over the new rules, or leave- don’t you realize the Leadership decisions have a huge impact on productivity in our business. Our team is losing talent that is difficult to replace. The losses we have this year will have a profound effect on productivity in the future.

When Stankey eliminated Health care subsidies (which in term forced many experienced managers to retire) many groups had to hire Contractors to do the work the retirees left behind. About 5 months into the next year, Stank said in a Town hall - we spend too much money on Contractors, focus on reducing the expense.
He didn’t realized he caused this increase in spend? Or is he just plain st-pid?

@1nwi+1nT81zaB - you're missing the point of the article. Of course work was done in the office back in the day before telecommuting was much of an option. Work was also done on typewriters and then d-mb terminals. Should we have stuck with those methods?

Now that both employers and especially employees have experienced by necessity (covid) that productivity can be just as much if not more working remote for some specific types of roles, many employees have no longer have an interest in being forced to be in an office setting 3+ days a week just to sit on conference calls and do the same exact thing we did at home. and spare me the bllsht about networking - that's for interns and new hires - those of us with 10+ years already know how to network with remote work tools.

The job market is strong and employees have a choice - they largely prefer the option to work remote the majority of the week (those that have jobs that can be done remote of course). Employers that don't face these facts will be hurting.

If you are using any AT&T service you are not required to, then drop it unless it is the lowest priced offering. If employees start dropping services it will be a retaliatory punch back to that bald headed, braindead CEO

This is a nonsense proposition and article.

Employees in Corporate America (and elsewhere) have worked effectively in the office for the last 150+ years. To suggest people can't productively return to the office if and when required by their employer is patently untrue.

What's really being said here is I'm too lazy to get up on time to drive to the office, I'd rather not get dressed for work and I'm unwilling to put in a full effort for my paycheck.

I've seen numerous people get laid off for getting too comfortable at home and too deluted into thinking they can dictate the terms of their physical place of employment. In fact, this just happened to a guy I went to school with who's now shockingly unemployed at 59 & 3/4 because he started scr*wing off at home when he was expected to come in for meetings. His employer Samsung called his bluff.

They don't refer to it as work for no reason. "Buck up buttercup!"

It wasn’t just the RTO it was the hub relocations that went with it. Even if you were already safe in a hub, I don’t like seeing people and my teammates getting treated like that. As for RTO it was a blanket top down mandate, and it doesn’t make sense for many teams. I was FTW long before covid, I came into the office 2x per week because I wanted to. Now I’m on a new team and NO ONE I work or collaborate with is in any of the hubs, yet I have to go sit in an office anyways. It’s a total waste of time for many of us.

AT&T is not a normal company. AT&T does not want to attract talent, AT&T wants to shed employees, regardless of talent. RTO is the way AT&T a financially sick company goes about it. Randell and Stankey have made a "few" missteps the last few years and there is no way to pay down the debt unless they cut the workforce. I'm not sure there are enough employees to cut.
