Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

It was never like that before

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but for as long as I've been working here, and that's already quite a long time, I've never before noticed that people don't actually care if they'll be laid off or not. What's happening? It seems that this place has become unbearable for everyone, and there is a lot of competition in the market. The number of burnt-out employees here is astounding.

The ELT is so utterly disconnected from everything that they honestly believe quarterly layoffs don’t impact morale.

After 22 years of layoffs Cisco is at a near record number of current employees I'd bet the tolerance of it is baked into the workforce. HR at smaller companies definitely do the numbers on how much pain employees can tolerate in terms of low salary and layoffs and Cisco very likely does the same. Look at the ever expanding number of levels for each title that Cisco uses to give you the illusion that you are being "promoted."

Hearing from more than a few people that they are "relieved" to be LR'd.

What kind of work is occurring at Cisco that most would consider engaging, allowing people to use the skills they have and develop new marketable skills? There are pockets where people have found this and there are people who left in search of it elsewhere. The remaining employees are neither motivated by the work at Cisco nor motivated to seek it elsewhere and this is the natural result.

I say this as an old guy who mowed down old guys when I was young because they were in much the same state as you are describing at other companies. I saw what I would become if I didn't keep my skills up and jump jobs opportunistically. I continue to try to help the next generations understand this critical part of their career.

I don’t care because the ELT have become woke idjets. How can I relate to some 🤡 in a golf polo shirt (membership $200K) parroting lines of SJW dogma written by some diversity hire from an organization with “purpose” in its name?
Really? It’s as simple as that, without even getting onto chief, chief, chief officers with boufféd hair speaking from their private art gallery in their holiday chalet on the Carmel coast about how empowering their private jet trip to Davos was.

Because they've become routine and because they're completely arbitrary. Work hard or slack off, same outcome. Grade 6 or 14? Doesn't matter. Been a loyal employee for the past 10 years? Here's your package! Add the utterly clueless ELT parading on Check-ins and you've got yourself disillusioned employees.

Honestly for me it’s just the fact that I am upside down after inflation over the last few years. Like the company doesn’t give a rip about retaining anyone, so let them lay me off. If I find a job before that, then all good!

You think they don't care about employees, how do you think they treat the 'non-employee'?

The ELT is so utterly disconnected from everything that they honestly believe quarterly layoffs don’t impact morale. And it speaks volumes about how they view ICs. I’d bet that behind closed doors, we’re referred to as peons.

With all the BS in Sales now in FY24, you will probably see some natural attrition over the next few months. But wait until after getting drunk and playing craps at Impact.
