Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Applying but not hearing back

Has anyone part of the most recent lay off been able to find another job yet? I keep applying but don’t hear back. It’s discouraging seeing friends at other companies go through lay offs as well. It makes me think getting another job will be impossible in this market. Any hopeful stories?

I agree 100% with the first reply (by @tie+1nTeRsfY). It is critical that your resume contain key words from their job description that their software / crawler will flag. It is a bit tedious, but will improve your chances.

I was SIRP'd last August and I applied to literally 100s of jobs. I did tweak my resume for ones that I was genuinely interested in. But, truthfully, I also would just flood it out there through Indeed - just a standard version without tweaking it. But that was likely for my own sanity more than anything else. I needed to feel like I was doing something.

I don't think I would copy/paste the posted job description into my resume though. Even if their crawler keys in on it, I believe that the hiring manager would recognize the job description that they wrote (or they should) and it would come off as disingenuous haha.

@hyu+1nTeRsfY i would make that claim that having a PMP certification makes you worse at managing projects, lol.

Job market has gotten tighter. I don't know if folks have noticed, but job descriptions seem much more specific and demanding as far as experience and skill sets i.e. IATF 6949 audit certification, PMP cert, etc. You also see 50+ applicants to many job postings. Adding 2+2, it looks like industry layoffs have created a situation where employers can be very picky about the skill sets they are asking. You don't need a PMP to be a project manager as an example, but if employers can get it they will ask.

Was fortunately SIRP'ed in 2022 when things were a bit more open.

There are very few jobs out there. Look on Linkedin, lots of people desperate for a position, any position. This is not the job market of 2022.

a dirty trick would be, just copy and paste the entire job description and put it in white to your resume and submit it.

Use chatgpt.
I've applied to literal hunders around the 200-300 mark maybe?
I've gotten so many more hits after using chatgpt to write my resume.

I now have 2 offers.
and it took about a month to get them.

keep tweaking your resume with chatgpt.

no hopeful stories. there were 5 of us in my area that got let go one year ago, next month. Myself included. None of us found a job yet. Since then you can add two more with the recent layoffs. Not hearing back from jobs is standard procedure, 95% of the time you never hear back.

Look up ATS applicant tracking system algorithm and refine your approach. You have to customize and tailor each resume you submit for the exact job keywords. There are sites that can analyze job descriptions and tell you what your resume should look like.
