Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Pkg if Displaced or laid off in last 2 weeks….

I am curious if people who have been laid off or displaced in the last few weeks from WF received a 60-day notice period and then their severance started. I have heard of some people getting a notice period and others not. Not sure the logic. Can you share your experience.

"Now, I think, but not 100% sure, If they take a new job in those 60 days, and Wells finds out, they are essentially resigning, so the paid notice stops, and they won’t be eligible for severance at the end of the 60 days."

Almost, but I'd refine the wording. You say "take a new job" but it's more than that. You can interview and accept a new position so long as your first day on the job with that company is at least the Monday after the Friday of your final day as a WF employee.

In real world dates:

Suppose you are notified you are being laid off on August 8th. Friday, October 6th is your final day as a Wells Fargo employee. You may begin applying for jobs on August 8th, even interviewing and even accepting a position.

However: you must make sure your first day at the new company is no sooner than Saturday, October 7th, which means realistically your first day at the new company can be no sooner than Monday, October 9th. Otherwise you risk being ineligible for severance.

everyone gets a notice period. It's 60 days or 90 days depending on what state you are in.

What varies is whether the notice period is "working" , "non working" or a mix.

The default is "non working" meaning the day you are notified your network and bacge access is turned off. You are "on call" as an employee of the company for the notice period.

They did this a couple of years ago as a risk mitigation measure. too many disgruntled displacements causing problems during the notice period.

Some people are given partial working notice, based on specific circumstances.

“Notice” is kind of unclear in this regard. Those individuals probably were not given any heads up they were being laid off prior to that day, I’m sure. But, when they were informed in a surprise meeting, they likely received what’s known as a 60-day notice, in which they’re still employed by WF for 60 days. If it’s a working notice (doesn’t usually happen, but can) they continue to work for those 60 days. If a non-working notice, they go .zz, lose system access, and begin enjoying a 60-day forced paid vacation. Now, I think, but not 100% sure, If they take a new job in those 60 days, and Wells finds out, they are essentially resigning, so the paid notice stops, and they won’t be eligible for severance at the end of the 60 days.

What OP probably heard about is all the HR people who got advance notice that they would be laid off. HR people who are being laid off on 8/8 were notified two weeks before. No one else is getting advance notice like that but all employees are getting the normal 60 day notice, which will either be a working or non-working (almost always non-working) notice period.

Everyone gets the 60 days. Not everyone is required to work them.

the day they are told is the start of your 60 days. if it is non working then you go ZZ and loose all access. zz or not you are still an employee until the end of tour 60 days then your severance starts. if you don't know what you're talking about don't comment.

There were 2 people layed off in our area. Both had a zz by their name in the email system very soon, maybe hours, after wards. There was no 60 day notice.

Everyone gets 60 days notice. Whether it's a working vs non-working 60-day period varies by role/circumstance.

You are still an employee during 60-day notice period, whether you are working or not.

Severance (separation) begins eight after 60-day period ends. You are no longer an employee once severed.
