Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Sr Leadership, just stop it!

  • Stop laying off people after a good quarter. Don't do it to us again on Aug 16th!
  • Stop saying you care about people, and then justify the poor treatment of our people "restructuring".
  • Stop laying off people 9 months after it was announced. This is ridiculous!
  • Stop executive check-ins (mostly behind us now after Covid) from their mansions saying how tough things are!
  • Stop the brainwashing in check-ins! If we are really the #1 place to work, we would not by laying off our fine folks or giving people the option to take a package.
  • Stop laying off so many people 55+. Instead, treat them with respect!!
  • Stop telling us how we can't travel, and then posting your photos of your travels on LinkedIn.
  • Stop talking about inclusion and then excluding the people you just laid off treating them like dirt!

...

  • Start a new culture of really treating people well, not just saying you do. Care about people more than the stock price and your stock options. This madness needs to STOP!

Ehm, that are RSUs for employees. Every company is doing that.

Sorry that is complete bollox, Cisco has spent over 150billion on buybacks since 2001 its not for RSU's

One word for you. Stock buybacks. I guess that's two words. We poured tens of billions into the program. Tens. Of. Billions.

One word for you. Stock buybacks. I guess that's two words. We poured tens of billions into the program. Tens. Of. Billions. The money could have been invested in true R&D to execute a well-crafted multi-year strategy. But nope. Layoffs poor su-kers year after year and
see marketshare eaten away quarter by quarter instead. Shows the only thing that matters to the board and the ELT is keeping the stock price artificially inflated. You and I don't matter a bit. We're numbers in the way of the board's brainless scheme.

They need to hear these messages to save Cisco.

Save it from what? A certain amount of churn is good for a company, and if the employee manages it right it can turn out to be better for them in the long run as well. The rah-rah stuff that a few of us can't stand works for the majority which is why you'll see posters with catch phrases at so many companies. Both customers and shareholders want to see executives living it up a bit as it's a sign things are going well. Neither of those entities send their Engineer 1s to Hawaii to party either. If you've ever worked at or near the executive ranks you'll know the relationships built at offsite events can strengthen a company.

Cisco knows it's a legacy company and after spending $100B on acquisitions over three decades and despite the fact that they said they're now a software company they have no clue how to develop software. There is also no clear acquisition which would take Cisco into new high growth businesses such that they could become a $1T company. They know what Cisco is and what its future potential is given the culture and resources it has, so the big question is why haven't the rest of you figured it out?

This is the highest voted thread I've seen yet. Keep the votes coming so leadership sees it. They need to hear these messages to save Cisco.

I fed into the “We are family…. We are Cisco” until I got LRd a few months back from a manager that didn’t like me speaking my mind about wasted sales activities and offering feedback on how to improve. Cisco will keep you if you’re a YES man or woman, but sales folks with opinions are shown the door. It’s just a job—remember that. Eventually, everyone will get shown the door.

The best thing that can happen to anyone over 50, and has been there for a good fifteen years, at Cisco is to be LR'd.

It was for me.

Those that don't feel the same have done a very cruddy job of managing their finances over their career.

The truth is, anyone over 50, with over 15 years at Cisco, should easily have a net worth north of $1M, more likely closer to $2M.

If they don't, they have blown all their money over the years, or just don't know how to manage money; thus they should likewise not be managing budget or people.

This is tantamount to asking an abuser to stop abusing you instead of just leaving.

What was that quote? "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results?" Cisco has been this way since the 2001 layoffs which means Cisco is starting to hire people who weren't even born when it started.

Cisco has no means to pivot to a hot growth technology at scale which means the only way they can present infinite growth to the stock market is ever increasing tightening. Those of you who complain yet stay are victims only of yourselves. Figure it out already.

And if it doesn’t, you’re just going to stick around and continue to complain. That’s why nothing ever changes. They know you won’t leave.
