Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Really tried to give it my all and be somewhat positive

  • But it looks like I am just being foolish and turning a blind eye to the reality here.

I am going to spend all my spare time applying to as many external jobs as I can and preparing for interviews. I don't know if I will be able to land an offer by the time September rolls around but I will try my best.

There doesn't seem to be a future here and people just seem demoralized and unhappy. No point in having anxiety on weekend and thinking if I will keep my job here no matter how hard I work. There literally isn't any rubric or criteria for performance evaluation and it just seems arbitrary

yep, stay positive, the world doesnt revolve around dearborn, dont coast unless you're tired, use your time in dearborn to learn more stuff that you can use outside the company. lot of problems to be solved in the world, maybe you can make tons of money doing it outside of dearborn. look at old henry, his model t didnt ship till he was 45 years old. a lot of current employees start coasting to retirement when they're 45 or less, and that boy was just gettin started.

Factor in a long strike (that may be a good thing by the way) and that may help you figure out what your next step is. If you love the car business, I'd hang on while also testing the waters outside. If you're not really motivated by the car business - yup - I'd make it a priority to get away from ground zero sooner rather than later. This industry is going to go through the mix master and for those who hang on I think their will be the excitement of being a part of a re-invented business. BUT, in my opinion, the BEV solution will probably cut production in half as the costs of ownership will deny a lot of buyers. Concomitant reductions in staff will be part of the transition. Good luck everybody.

Old engineer out to pasture.

Always be prepared and do what is best for you and your family. Nothing is guaranteed in today's job environment. More so in a poorly managed company like Ford.

Amazon is forcing employees to return to a work hub, not just RTO. So if your functional group is in Seattle but you are going into the Detroit office, they are giving you a choice, move or move on. Forced layoffs.

GM has given guidance that they'll be cutting salaried employment costs soon, so hopefully folks in SE Mich are OK relocating and/or applying to jobs outside their current skillset.
