Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Low hanging fruits

Gr.6 SWE in Oregon here. How come the lowest performer in the team gets promoted to manage BBs while the top performer gets mediocre school grade projects. Isn't it these guys that are to be laid off first ?

That seems to be the norm. Those that BS around and can’t do the work get promoted to manage the productive people. It is amazing what people get away with and then end up with promotion.

People don’t care about 3rd party GPUs in laptops.

They care about desktops, and you have a point there, but that segment is small and shrinking.

Apple’s new laptop chips don’t support third party GPU’s I think this is a win for intel for anyone needing powerful GPU’s still. Just putting that out here.

@roj - it’s also more readable for the d-mbdumbs at Intel. Job security through code obscurity got Intel where it is.

Man, it's so hot in Chandler, my fruits are hanging really low - almost down to my ankles.

TSMC, Apple and Qualcomm all laugh at you.

ARM processors are 10x the volume of x86 and there is truth to the fact that x86 is diminishing in importance with each passing year. This is general purpose compute via smartphones and tablets and not some embedded niche.
Laptops also if you go with Apple.
ARM is also encroaching on servers.

Intel should worry less about AMD and more about Apple and Qualcomm.

@kdq+1nZ5GFVP:
Your post is garbage.
We are talking performance here.
For that everyone uses AMD.

Your code is trash.
Everyone uses ARM.

X86 is a dinosaur.

The problem is that Intel needed to cut a lot of people fast and the way to do that is to cut entire projects. They'll get around to performance based cuts, but those take longer and since Intel completely botched their performance evaluation system 4 years ago when they deployed the DEI-focused "Insights," it's now even harder to evaluate performance. There is a reason they are making the changes to the performance review system that were announced last quarter. You can expect a reckoning in Q3 2024.

Has it occurred to you that you do not have enough visibility into your team to know who is performing?
