Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Rat is gone but the droppings….

Why has there been no inquest into all the Kohl’s hires? They were hired lightening fast with some shady interview practices. These bunch have taken Nike culture to the gutters. Financially too, paying Bay Area salaries for some substandard talent.

Hopeful that the house cleaning traps some more of the vermin left behind. Are Directors with no management experience, no business or operational experience, and little technical, development or engineering experience. A manager should be an advocate for their team, not just there to relay edicts and proclamations coming down from above - that ignore what’s practical, what’s cost effective, what’s best for Nike, or what our Customers are asking for. The risk taking due to lack of effective communication and organizational structure is in the extremes. Large projects are doomed to fail if the org is hierarchical and underlings are discouraged to communicate ideas & problems.

The funny thing is people have been screaming about this since the very beginning. People have been sharing it in exit interviews.

HR doesn’t care.

Executives are clueless.

The justification for the Bay Area office was to be close to Silicon Valley and get FANG-level talent. Instead, we got Kohls level talent. Most were hired in 2021, so it has been about 2 years. That isn't enough time to make a huge impact, but it is enough time to destroy a culture from within. In some groups, nearly everyone comes from Kohls. The AIML only has Kohls leaders, and they brought on their crony friends. If you take a look at the directors' experiences, they don't have ANY engineering background, yet they are leading an engineering team. What are they bringing to the table, besides dysfunction? Same deal with leadership in TPO and CMT -- mostly Kohls at the Director, Sr. Director, and VP level. Is this what Nike paid for?

E bands in the Bay Area have $500K+ TC packages, ridiculous considering how they were hired.

Has the house keeping begun? The departures of SB and RB should give us hope.
