Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Does working for Wells Fargo compromise your integrity?

I tell myself “No” because I have been in a position where I have been able to make decisions which benefit our customers.

But now - things are changing. We are being told to direct our business internally rather than externally in order to shore up profits for other LOB’s within the bank. Recent cost-cutting and efficiency changes dramatically disadvantage our customers in ways they will probably never be aware of. There are several technology weaknesses which force us to route business away from resources which provide a higher-quality result for our customers. (Our department goes out of their way to document that our customers are not being disadvantaged, but there are ways to manipulate the data.)

I have talked to my managers about these issues. They struggle with some of it too, but also say we all have to “Get on board, because this is the way the business is heading.” They have families to support just like I do.

This is all apart from working for a bank who routinely rips off their customers, either through outright greed or incompetence.

They say either you have integrity or you don’t. There is no such thing as partial integrity.

Where do you draw the line?

Yes. As your post states the goal of this bank was to serve the needs of the customer. Then greed and efficiency ratios got in the way. Now the bank seems to be meandering in trying to find its goals.

If you have to ask yourself the question you already know the answer

Why do we still regurgitate the same material day after day after day for years on end? Solidarity is a given from one WF employee to another. The options are simple for any one of us:

1- Vote
2- Find a new job outside WF
3- Stay at WF and keep fighting the good fight

Now when are the next round of layoffs?

If you are dishonest yourself, you suspect everyone else is dishonest.

If you are uneducated, the best you can come up with is over-used internet slang.

If you are a snowflake you will recognize the truth in this post.

If you work for Wells Fargo, say in sales/banking/trading/CIB/Mortgages/WFII, you will recognize the truth in this post.

If you are new to the financial industry, or are low on the totem pole - you will not.

Maybe not my personal integrity, but who I am as a person:

  • Delaying 401k match
  • Making us use our personal cell phones
  • Making us RTO once a week simply as a role call
  • Laying off people/not filling we need. DevOps and QA
  • Not actually serving its customers. Focusing more on DEI than the actual product our consumers interact with

OP here. Wanted to add that Wells Fargo got rid of our previous manager who tried to do the right thing and take a stand against the changes.
