Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Another Monday….

… another day of not knowing what the future holds. Will I need to move to a hub? Will I need to start going to a ‘ local’ office 80 miles away even though I have been designated as TW(Virtual) for 15 plus years? Will I even have a job? Prayers to everyone in the same situation, and those already negatively affected.

“Those of us outside Dallas area won’t know anything now until September. Enjoy the summer.”

That is what I was told. I’m outside of the nine hubs but customer facing. I was told I’ll be instructed which local building to report to in September.

Surplus not associated with RTO/hub still on for 6/22 off p/r 7/6.

Those of us outside Dallas area won’t know anything now until September. Enjoy the summer.

Why? The surplus is on 6/22. You protected from it? If referring to RTO, why are you going to hear anything til Sep? Those details due to be sent at the end of the month.

@use+1nceKkAT" I have a job that is quite busy. My e mail volume has dropped to almost zero. Everyone is stressed, looking over their backs, and afraid they’ll be asked to relocate (a/k/a laid off). It’s unconscionable. "

Same here!

Have noticed it too. Normally, fewer emails to read would be a good thing, but right now, it's just kind of sad.

Why is this taking so long? Those in charge are sociopaths.

In response to:
""Well, let me tell you, it's the best decision I've ever made."

Seems to be the most common outcome I keep hearing/seeing from people that left AT&T, either voluntarily or not. Everyone appears to be doing better. We will all be just fine."

I have never, ever, ever, ever heard of anyone regret leaving this company. ALL OF YOU will be fine.

I hope this helps someone on this forum.....
I left the company back in November of last year after 24 years. I was months away from MR75, which didn't mean much anymore... at least in my situation. The only thing I would get was half price on data plan... that's it.
Anyway, I left due to the hit we were going to take on our pension. In the end, had I not left I would have lost 40% of my pension, which would have been a tremendous hit on me financially.
I had less than 2 months to make a decision to stay (take a hit on my pension) or leave and keep my pension in tact... well, I decided to leave because it was best for me and my family. I did NOT have a back up plan, no job lined up and was scared to make that jump after so many years of being here.
Well, let me tell you, it's the best decision I've ever made. Stress is gone, lack of sleep has gotten better (7 hrs a night opposed to 3-4 hrs per night), and overall family life has improved so much.
I'm saying this in hopes to encourage some of you on here that are nervous/scared... that's normal. However, there is light at the end and I'm sure a lot of you will say to themselves why you didn't make the move sooner. Trust me, it is scary but after a few weeks you get into a groove and you (ALL Of YOU) will be fine.

I am local market and don’t need to relocate to a hub. (This week).
I was told September is when they’ll tell me which local building to report too. So this first round will take months. Then they’ll start the 9 to 2 hub process. It’s going to be years

I’m in a similar situation. Except I am closer - only 68 miles from a hub. My coworker out of state (FL) was called and asked if she would return to Dallas or Atlanta. If they don’t exempt my coworker from such a large distance, I know I won’t get any type of break. I have been virtual for 10 years due to distance coupled with crazy traffic and the need to be available for project calls ( not on the road). It’s very sad what AT&T has come too. No wonder our service is horrible! Lose workers, pile on work to those left behind, oh and let’s go buy another company!

It’s going to go on for years. We’ll get through the first round of nine hubs. Then they’ll start planning on how to go down to just two hubs. This is BAU for the next several years.

Last we heard was that we will know by June 22nd. Many different groups appear to have been given this date. So if we don't find out this Thursday or Friday, I'm not sure if it's a good or bad sign, might end up going for weeks if not months of this thing looming over our heads.

I'm with the OP. Just want to know what the deal is.

Not much to say other than what’s already been said. Best of luck to you. I do feel for folks in this situation. If it were me (I don’t have a pension), I would find another job and just drive in until I did. No way I’d relo for this company or any company. I’ve seen way too many people get burned by that. Especially in this real estate market. You’ll likely have to take a big quality of life hit to afford anything.

It is ridiculous that they would make an announcement that impacts so many people's lives and not have a concrete plan in place. It's already been about a month since the initial announcement and no one knows definitively how it impacts them. Only a lot of speculation.
